Hello~
Back with another GENE translation now, this time it's from Ginger Magazine August 2019 issue!
It's about what the members are into now and as always, it's an interesting article to read :)
Here we go~

What are you into now?

RYOTA
Into "Vintage"
I started to professionally interest in fashion since I entered GENERATIONS. I get more and more chances to wear various outfits, and people told me "Thoss clothes suit you", and from that I grow to like it more and more. I'm currently into Raf Simons. Two years ago, I encountered a parka which was made over 15 years ago and it made me think, "Apparently something so cool like this, which isn't influenced by the trend, does exist!". Since then, I checked auction sites and so quite often, and now, I have around 40 points already. What if I can meet Raf Simons in person...? First, I guess I'll be worried about what I should wear (laugh). Then, perhaps I'll tell him that I want to work together with him. Then, I also collect old chairs. If I tell Reo that I like Raf Simons, he will surely say, "I think you'll purchase that furniture soon" (laugh). Then, I also like vintage wine. Since I started to be absorbed into it, I've collected various kinds. I will continue seeking for nice stuffs which can go beyond time.

RYUTO
Into "Kickboxing"
Since before I love one-on-one fighting sports like K-1 and PRIDE. I've started kickboxing since a year ago and now I'm practising 3 times a week. What's attractive about it is the strategies used momentarily. Like pretending to receive a punch from the opponent, then finding the gap and stab through it-those straregies are interesting. It's not that I want to participate in competitions, but I want to acquire license. Moreover, I can work hard when I have a certain goal. At the gym, I have my trainer as my sparring partner. That's why I have bruised on my body part which you can't see (laugh). I like how sport ia adjoined with danger. Speaking about thrilling sports, I think surfing is also one of them. Before, I started to do it because I tried in Hawaii and thought, "This is interesting!", but after the movie "Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara" came out, it's like a trigger for me to start learning it professionally. Tomorrow too, I'll wake up at 5 in the morning and head to the sea! But if I build too much muscles, I won't be able to float on water... Whether I should build muscles for kickboxing or shape my body for surfing, now I'm greatly troubled to choose (laugh).

HAYATO
Into "Coffee"
On my 20th birthday, I received a complete set of coffee brewer tools from EXILE's TETSUYA-san. I originally love coffee though but now, I can drink the coffee I roast from raw beans. At "AMAZING COFFEE" which is produced by TETSUYA-san, he lets me brew coffee and teaches me lots of things... Even now, I'm still learning! When I have time in the morning, I brew some and bring it for the members. Everyone drinks it and says, "It's delicious". My favorite is dark-roasted Brazilian raw beans. Even though it's made into ice coffee, the flavor and taste doesn't get weakened. By the way, recently I start to get interested on black tea too. I try to create beans blending, but the more I brew it, the thicker it gets and I still try to figure out what to do with that... Someday, I want to create a cafe specializing in take-out, where people can also purchase various beans and tea leaves. For that, I still have so many things to learn! I'll do my best!

REO
Into "Movies"
Since junior high school, I went to watch movies alone. Because I want to concentrate while watching, the basic is to go alone. I don't eat anything like popcorn (while watching). When I have free time at noon, or after I finish my jobs at night, I like to go to cinema alone and go home quickly afterwards. I also watch DVDs at home though, but by watching movies on big screens in cinema, the scenes will be burnt into my memory, right? Moreover, so that I can get various inspirations, I have to refine my sense and I really treasure those time I spend. As for the genre, whether it's Western or Japanese or Korean movie, it doesn't matter for me. I just go watching any movies currently showing while I can. Also, since I like anime, I want to take my time going around Akihabara which I don't visit often. It's a place full of Japan's culture so I'm interested to go there. And if I'm given a chance, I'd like to try being a voice actor too. I think I can make the best use of my experiences as an actor with that.

YUTA
Into " Voice Percussion"
Recently, I began taking lessons of voice percussion. The trigger is because I think it will be interesting if I can do voice percussion while dancing. It's really difficult to do voice percussion while dancing. My dancer friend does that too and he said it's really hard to breathe that he felt like dying (laugh). But even for someone who has zero experience with musical instrument like me, I can do improvisation in voice percussion, and I think it will be interesting if I can get involved in GENE's song or Mandy-kun's rap during our lives. It's my dream to try it together with sharp dance movements on the dome's stage. I got extremely happy when my trainer told me, "You're improving so fast", so I practice everyday in my bathroom while soaking myself in the bathtub. Since my voice gets echoed in the bathroom, it's a perfect place to practice. I've devoted myself in dancing since I was 6 years old, and voice percussion is the first thing I want to try  other than dancing. If we can add voice percussion to GENE which is a vocal and dance group, I'm pretty sure we'll be more invincible.

MANDY
Into "Learning English"
Though I've always been a character who is like, "Even though he looks like this, Mandy can't speak English" (laugh), in these next 2-3 years, I want to learn English seriously. Recently, I take lessons from foreign teacher through English conversation online classes, get more and more foreign friends through Instagram, and my world is like expanding right away. Someday, I'll ask foreign designers to design GENE's outfits, and it will be great if I can make the best use of my English for GENE's activities. It will be great if we can collaborate with foreign artists too in near future. Because it will be faster if I can communicate with fellow artists directly without the help from others. The trigger which makes me feel that I have to learn English is the words my parents told me when I was on 4th grade of elementary school: "I want you to become the bridge between Japan and the world". Also, I want to destroy the image I got. I want people to recognize me not as 'someone who often appears in variety shows' but as Mandy whom they think is great. In order to achieve that, now I want to do my best in learning English.

ALAN
Into "Creating Songs"
Recently, the moment I can feel relax is when I'm making songs instead of when I'm going out to have fun. For that, there are times I spend the whole day watching foreign artists' music videos on Youtube. My way of creating songs is first, I create the drum pattern on my computer, then I play the keyboard... so it's the pattern where I add the sounds one by one. I learn about house music, dance tune and HIP HOP and along with that, I can also have fun while creating songs. Since I've made several songs already, I think it will be great if someday I can introduce them to you all! Since the space I use at home to create music is getting smaller and smaller because my equipments are piling up, someday I want to build a private studio. I want to release album containing the songs I've made as Shirahama Alan. I also want to try offering songs to artists who are active in today's J-POP scene and also producing new artists. Before I'm 30, I want to establish my own music label. My dreams keep getting bigger!

Trivia: Unexpected Sides of GENE Members

-Ryuto says: "Alan-kun is unexpectedly a neat person.  After he's done with vacuum cleaner, he properly wipes the floor too."

-Yuta says, "When our two vocalists Ryota-kun and Ryuto drink alcohol, they'll talk passionately. I feel that they both greatly think about GENE, the future and also other various things."

-Reo says, "Yuta-kun loves comedy. He's playful, but lots of his jokes are lame (laugh)."

-Alan says, "When Mandy-kun gets angry, it shows on his face. You'll know it right away even though he doesn't say anything (laugh)."

-Mandy says, "Reo is anime otaku. The anime he's talking about is always changing day by day, so I think he must have watched so much regardless of the genre."

-Ryota says, "Hayato is surprisingly a worrywart. Moreover, he's a type who tends to make his own worries worse (laugh)."

Trivia: Is there a gap between your image and reality? Truth of GENE as a group

"Perhaps GENE members get along even better than what people think. We visit each other's house, watch TV together, watch movies together, go to the gym together. Recently, I went surfing with Hayato."-by Ryuto

"Among us, the group's father is Alan-kun. The mother is... Reo, I guess? I feel that they support the group."-by Ryota

"Recently, we all feel old (laugh). We recover more slowly after drinking alcohol compared to before, and seeing our juniors, we think that our stamina has dropped (laugh)."-by Ryuto

"Though we seem to do naturally well on variety shows, we actually have a serious briefing together beforehand. We discuss about who should start the joke, or what we should do in certain situation, and surprisingly we can properly do it (laugh)."-by Hayato
