recap before I head out again

I got the Bennett Centre job! I start mid-October.

The detox went pretty well. No withdrawal symptoms. Only head pain. Lots and lots of head pain. I discovered a few meds I don’t need to be on. Now I’m just waiting out the headaches, hoping it’s rebound. It’s an uphill battle. I have a lot of cravings for a lot of things. I keep reminding myself that I have self-control, it just hides a lot.

I gained 6 pounds while away. I just kept eating junk food and sweets. 6 pounds! But I worked out and a put on a wee bit of muscle too. Also, Inoa’s acreage is INCREDIBLE. A little bastion in a forest. Lovely.

I came to some realizations about things and am going to try to detoxify further, beyond just the medications.

As mentioned before, I’m going to Saskatoon for two days to have Styx treated. The surgery is only available at the vet clinic in the university there. I’m okay with leaving the detox early but a hot, sunny car filled with barking dogs is not so appealing.

I’ll be back Friday and I’m going to the opening of Play! Anybody else?

I got in to town, bought a bunch of GI Joes at Wal-Mart, went for a wonderful dinner at Furusato and headed over to the university to hear lesbian author Sarah Schulman speak. She talked about AIDS in the early years and the organization she was a part of, ACT UP. She showed clips of old, incredible ACT UP actions, protests and demonstrations. It was chilling, in a good way. She’s working on this amazing interview project with the surviving members. I felt so empowered just by hearing her. Almost jealous of a movement that I wish I had been a part of. She had so many interesting things to say about activism. I can’t quite articulate it, it was just incredible.

I met two online people for the first time, so yay that. Otherwise I saw like 30 people I knew in the audience, which was funny since I almost didn’t go because I thought I wouldn’t know anyone. I chatted with Lynn, Jill and Kristy for a while, so that was great.

Okay, sleepy time. I gave my mom the lists of hotels that might have something. Maybe I’ll wake up to a reservation.
