Of houses and things

We were supposed to close on that pink house on Thursday, but it's looking highly unlikely that will happen, if it happens at all. There was some termite damage in the rafters that had improper repairwork done. While we were away last week, the seller was supposed to get someone to come in, fix it, and also fix a leak elsewhere in the roof.

Yesterday I learned that not only had they not fixed the leak, but that the repairs to fix the shoddy repairs was just as, if not, even more shoddy.

My realtor got into a pretty big argument with their listing agent and demanded a new contractor come in for a damage estimate -- one of our picking. And today his assessment isn't so good. The structural damage can be fixed, but it will cost a lot more than previously estimated. They'll probably have to lift the roof in some areas to reach the damage.

This puts the seller in a tough spot: if they don't fix the damage correctly, we're not gonna buy, and legally they now have to publicly disclose that the house is damaged goods. There's no way in hell they'll be able to sell it without dropping the price by a pretty large margin.

With the ball in their court, I have a day or so where I'm basically in limbo. I had to call my apartment's leasing office to let them know I would NOT be moving out next month and would be staying for the immediate future, at least. I also had to call my homeowner's insurance to let them know we'd be waiting a while longer before any policy would go into effect. I haven't called the movers to cancel just yet... holding onto hope I guess that maybe something will work out.

To end things on a jovial note, here's a slightly blurry, washed out picture of our first kiss.
