Last night,
tincow and I went to
Proof to celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary. We enjoyed it a great deal. I wish I could cook fish like the chef at this restaurant did.
The bread thin and crispy, with a yogurt-based dip that had spices and a little olive oil in it. I ate most of the dip single handedly, but had enough self control not to ask for more. We were both pretty hungry, so we split the charcuterie for two, which was a lot larger than we thought. It had a sample of each of the meats they offered for the pick-your-own charcuterie platter, plus some pate, pickles, and a really good spicy mustard with whole peppercorns.
For an appetizer, I toyed with the idea of attempting to be healthy and ordering a salad, but ended up not being able to resist the "braised little meatballs" with goat cheese ravioli and tomato sauce. The meatballs were spicy, which I liked, and the ravioli tasted like it had some kind of lemon flavor, which I *loved*.
For my entree, I had halibut, served over wilted baby spinach with rainbow carrots,
sunchokes, and mint pesto. I didn't know that a sunchoke was the same thing as a Jerusalem artichoke, and I'd never eaten one before. It tasted very similar to an artichoke. This was one of the best fish dishes I've had in a while, it was cooked perfectly.
We didn't order dessert since we were stuffed out of our minds.
We ordered a bottle of 1998 Clos de la Roche Burgundy and it was absolutely amazing. (We didn't pick it, we asked the waiter for help since I had fish and
tincow had duck).
