Jin nodded, pulled a jacket on and followed them, not being able to look at Kazuya. He felt so guilty of not telling him that he knew Kazuya wasn't the one at fault. In the car, on their way to the police station, Kazuya just stared at Jin, feeling both happy and betrayed. He didn't know how to react to what had happened in such a short span of time. He was happy that he got to hear Jin's voice, but he also felt betrayed because the older one didn't tell him the truth: that he was a witness. At one point he turned his head away, not bearing to look at him anymore. He couldn't bare Jin ignoring him. But then felt a soft touch on his cuffed hands and looked at Jin in an instant, who had an apologetic look on his face.

“I'm sorry I d-didn't tell you this before.”

“Why... why didn't you say it from the start? I wouldn't have spent a month behind bars...”

“I'm sorry. I truly am.” he let out, gripping Kazuya's hand tight. “But then... we wouldn't have met.”

“You're right, but-” Jin placed a hand on his mouth and leaned in.

“I love you, Kazuya. Don't forget that.” he whispered and caressed his cheeks, cleaning them of tears. “Now please stop crying. Everything will be ok.” he smiled mildly as he used the same soft tone.

“I...” he didn't finish his words as he saw a lot of people in front of the police station, holding cameras and other types of equipment. “The media's here.” he sighed. “How did they know that I'd be brought in today?”

“Maybe someone tipped them off.” Jin answered as he glanced out the window. “Try not to panic when you go outside, ok?” he smiled and squeezed Kazuya's hand once more before the two officers made the younger one get out of the car.

It was crazy: flashlights coming from everywhere, his name being called from hundreds of directions, the huge crowd... unfortunately he wasn't on the baseball field, where fans would acclaim him and photographers would tread over each other just to take his photo in action, but in front of a place he dreaded to set foot in again. Kazuya was scared. However, he still had a glitter of hope, knowing Jin was there for him and that he was indeed able to help him regain his freedom. He glanced one more time at the man inside the car before he was taken inside.

They took Kazuya to a holding cell and locked him up, leaving him all alone. His cuffs were also taken off and Kazuya sat down on one of the benches there, trying to make himself as comfortable as possible. He knew he was going to stay there for a few days at least.

As he sat there, he let everything that had happened to him lately unfold in front of his eyes, remembering the good and bad moments and how his life took an interesting twist.

“Just because I hit him once back then it doesn't mean I'm the one who killed him.” he whispered to himself, not being able to bear the dead silence in the cell. “I didn't hate him or something... He was actually a fun guy.” He heard some noises and looked at the cell door absentmindedly.

“You have a visitor.” the jailor let out and cuffed Kazuya so he could take him into the interview room, where he would meet the person that came.

“Kazuya!”

“Nii-chan?” the young man let out as his brother hugged him. “What are you doing here?”

“I heard it on the news. How are you?”

“I'm... insanely calm.” Kazuya smiled bitterly.

“Don't worry, we're going to get you out of here.”

“We?”

“Yes. Akanishi-kun and I.”

“Jin? Where is he?”

“The officers are taking his statement. I think we can make an appeal. We might be able to reopen the trial.”

“That's good to hear.” he let out softly as he sat down.

“What's wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“Don't lie to me, Kazuya. You know you never could.” Koji said softly.

“I just... I want to see him, nii-chan.”

“Who, Akanishi-kun?” Kazuya nodded and placed his head on the table. “Don't worry, you'll see him soon.”

“Yeah...”

Koji leaned in a bit and tried getting the younger one's attention, which he did when his words came out of his mouth.

“You love him that much?” he asked in a whispered voice and Kazuya shot his head up.

“Wh-what do you mean? I-”

“You sure do.” he chuckled.

“Eh?” the younger one looked at him confused.

“Remember that day we bumped into each other in that cafe shop? When he... told me he just wants to be your friend I kind of believed him. But after seeing your reaction, I could sense something was a bit off. And seeing your expression now...”

“Please don't tell anyone, nii-chan. I don't want anyone to find out. I don't want him to get hurt as well.”

“Don't worry, your secret's safe with me. Ok, I should get going. I have to call Kanou-san and tell him there is a witness after all. Take care, ne?” he got up and approached the younger one. “I'll ask the officers if they can arrange for you to meet him. If not... I'm afraid you'll see him at the trial only.” he whispered.

“Do I really have to stay here until the trial begins?”

“I'm afraid so. Ok, see you soon, bro.” he got up to leave.

“Nii-chan.”

“Yeah?”

“Thanks.” he let out as his brother smiled and left. He was taken back to his cell to wait for the day the trial started.

Having a key witness, Kazuya's lawyer was able to reopen the trial. It took them a few days until they found a judge that would take the case - the previous one retired just a few weeks after the first trial. Every piece of evidence was reexamined and each previous witness called to testify again.

The day of the trial soon arrived and Kazuya was trying to keep his calm. His innocence would finally be proven and be set free. During the trial, new evidences were brought in and apparently new witnesses were discovered. But as many proofs as they had, it was still a long and pretty difficult trial. A few of his former team mates were called in, as well as other players from different teams, including the one where the man who died was a part of.

Kazuya was almost shocked to see his parents sitting somewhere in the back of the hall, seemingly very concerned. He kept wondering what they were doing there. Did they come only to watch him suffer more? Or were they actually and honestly concerned about him? He noticed them looking his way and an encouraging smile on his mother's face.

Not long after a few of the witnesses testified, the judge asked for a recess. When the jailor wanted to take Kazuya to the cell until the judge was back, Jin's mother and brother tried cheering him up, seeing the younger one's gloomy expression. Moments later he heard his name being called and saw his parents approaching. He was still perplexed about their behavior, but asked the jailor to give him two minutes to talk to them. When his mother approached, she caressed Kazuya's face with one of her hands, smiling at him.

“How are you, dear?”

“I'm... ok, I guess. What are you doing here?”

“Your father and I came to support you.”

“Why would you do that?”

“Kame!” he heard Reio say and looked at him. “They are your parents.” the younger one let out and bowed towards the other two adults.

“So? Why would they come here to support me when they didn't do it all my life?” he turned to the jailor. “Please take me back.”

“Kazuya. Don't talk like that to your mother.”

“Sorry, father. But you're no better. Please go home and take care of your precious business. You seem to have three sons, not four.” he let out those hurtful words - both for him and his parents - and left. The second he left the hall, he felt a few silent tears falling down his cheek. Why did he talk to them like that? He loved his parents, but... maybe it was because he was sick and tired from receiving such a cold treatment from them all his life. However, deep down he was happy they were there.

Soon everyone was called back into the hall and the second - and last - part of the trial began. He looked around the hall and saw his parents were still there. He was touched by the sight: his father was holding his mother with one arm around her shoulders, trying to calm her down. She seemed very nervous about the outcome. That image made him smile shyly to himself. There was still love in that family, even if he never noticed it until then.

The moment he saw Jin entering the hall and sitting in the witness stand, Kazuya couldn't hold back a soft gasp. He looked so charming sitting there that he wanted to get up and jump in his arms and the moment Jin glanced at him, Kazuya's heart filled with a very familiar warmth. Yes, he loved Jin and he loved him a lot. He also put his faith in him and was sure Jin wouldn't let him down. Kazuya noticed how calm and composed he was, quite the opposite of what the younger one had thought he would be. But it kind of made sense for Jin to be like that; he seemed the type that wasn't easily intimidated or such.

“Please state your name, age and occupation.”

“Akanishi Jin, 25 years old, employee of IMC company.”

“Akanishi-san, could you please tell the court what you have witnessed on the evening of September 3rd?”

“Of course. I was exiting the company building to go home, when I heard some noises. At first I didn't give them any importance, so I continued my way. But then I remembered I forgot something back in the office and returned. On my way there, I saw two figures that seemed somewhat familiar. As they passed by me, I could hear them say something along the lines of 'I hope the president will be satisfied' and 'Finally we'll have a chance'.” Jin let out and glanced at Kazuya briefly before looking back at the lawyer. “When I went back down again I saw the police and an ambulance and also a big crowd. Later on, while watching the news, I found out that there was an accident.”

Kazuya was fidgeting in his seat and kept playing with his hands out of nervousness. He was afraid that the the other lawyer would put Jin in a difficult spot and the latter wouldn't be able to answer. But Kazuya was wrong. Jin dealt very well with all the questions, including the one about the reason why Jin didn't tell the police he heard those men say those words, that he was a witness. Jin answered him that it was too late to let them know, because the previous trial had ended before he could say anything. Soon he was dismissed from the witness stand and went inside the hall, sitting on the bench behind Kazuya. Both attorneys made their closing statements and soon enough the jury were dismissed, as they had to debate whether Kazuya was guilty or not. The young man was taken away before he had a chance to talk to Jin, something he wanted badly.

As he was waiting in the cell, Kazuya was rewinding everything that was said that day, in his mind. He was glad to be among the first to testify as he was nervous. It was about his freedom and that was reason enough. He tried thinking who would do that to him, as he agreed with what Jin's mother had said: that the accident was staged. But who would want to kill the other player? Or was it that someone was actually after him? He didn't know. But he hoped he would find out one day, he hoped all that mess would be cleared together with his name. And now, thanks to the older one, he had a chance to do so.

A few hours later he was brought - yet again - into the hall, as the jury was back with the verdict. He sat there, furiously fidgeting, as he was extremely anxious about what the jury had decided. He felt a soft touch on his shoulder and looked behind him, only to see Jin smiling at him, assuring him everything would be ok. He then looked back and saw one of the guards handing the piece of paper with the result to the judge, who only glanced at what was written there before giving it back.

“Will the jury please state the verdict?”

“In the trial involving the Baseball National League versus Kamenashi Kazuya, we find the accused...”

Tension was building up inside the hall as everyone held their breaths, waiting for the answer. Kazuya - out of frustration and nervousness - buried his face in his palms, afraid that maybe the jury decided against him being free, that they would take everything away from him... for life.

“... not guilty of all charges.” In that exact second, everyone rose and started applauding and shouting out of relief and happiness. It took Kazuya a few moments to process the information and when he did, he looked up and around with wide eyes, not believing it. He got up and in his shocked state shook hands with his lawyer before he felt pulled back in a hug. He looked up and saw Jin smiling at him.

“Jin?”

“We won, Kazu.” he let out and hugged him tighter. “Kazu? What is it?” Jin let out as he felt the younger one sobbing.

“Thank you.” He hugged the older one back, burying his face at Jin's chest.

“Kame, congratulations!” he heard Reio say and looked at him and their mother.

“Congratulations, Kazuya-kun.” the lady smiled.

“Thank you.” he let go of Jin and saw his parents leaving the hall, deciding to go to them. He called out for them and the couple stopped, together with Koji - who attended the trial as well. He approached them shyly.

“What is it, Kazuya?” his father asked in a cold tone.

“I... I want to apologize for what I have said earlier. I mean... I love you guys, but... you're too strict with me and I-” he didn't finish his words as he felt his mother hugging him tight.

“We're so proud of you, dear.” she whispered.

“Kaa-chan...” he let out and soon felt two other persons hugging both of them. “Father, Koji...”

“Come home with us, son.” he heard his father say and Kazuya escaped the group hug.

“I'm sorry, but I won't.”

“Why not?”

“Because...”

“Kazuya, you should go with your family.” The younger one heard that voice he longed for from behind and turned around.

“Jin...”

“You should celebrate with your family.” he smiled.

“But...” a thought crossed Kazuya's mind and turned to his parents. “I will. On one condition.”

“Anything, dear.” his mother smiled lovingly at him.

“That Jin and his family will join us.”

“Kazuya, you should spend time with them, not with us. Aren't you tired of hanging around us?” Hearing those words from his precious one, Kazuya turned to him.

“No, and I never will.” he let out, a soft smile on his face. “If you won't join us, then...” he used sign language to tell Jin what he'd do and saw how the older one's smile faded for a second. Kazuya chuckled to himself seeing that expression.

“You're evil.” Jin let out in a serious tone. As Kazuya looked back at this family, he saw their confused expressions and smiled widely.

“Oh, I forgot... mom, dad... this is my friend, Akanishi Jin.”

“We know, dear. We met him before.”

“Eh? When?” Kazuya looked at his mother surprised. When did...?

“He was the one who convinced us to come. Well, your father, actually. He's such a nice young man.” she smiled and the younger one saw Jin blush slightly, something he hadn't seen him doing before. “So, shall we get going? Akanishi-kun, tell your mother and brother to join us as well. We have to celebrate our son's victory and we want to thank you for what you have done for our Kazuya.”

Hearing his mother's last words, the younger one felt a warm feeling inside him. Their Kazuya... He smiled stupidly to himself, thinking that they actually cared about him, if not more. He soon felt himself pulled along by Jin and together with both their families went to a restaurant his father owned.

Onto the last part
