採桑子 書博山道中壁

辛棄疾

少年不識愁滋味
愛上層樓
愛上層樓
為賦新詞強說愁

而今識盡愁滋味
欲說還休
欲說還休
卻道"天涼好個秋!"

--
"To the tune 'Plucking the Mulberry Tree,' Xin Qiji

In my youth, I knew not the taste of sorrow,
Yet I loved to go to the upper stories,
Loved to go to the upper stories
To write new verse, forcing myself to write of sorrow.

Now that I know the taste of sorrow,
I wish to talk of it, but refrain,
Wish to talk of it, but refrain -
And say only, 'The weather is cool; what a fine autumn.'

Song poet, famous for his ci (fond of the Water Dragon Chant, too, I think - the Shuilong Yin, my FAVORITE type of ci, though surely he could not surpass my beloved Xu Can in talent of that form). Not entirely sure how to translate the title - indeed, not even sure my 'to the tune of' is correct, so I didn't bother with the sub title. I'll ask my laoshi on Wednesday.

I do love lyric poetry so. Latin, Chinese, English .... And even better when it's melancholy and lovely.

文言文, translation, poetry
