山中問答 李白

問余何意棲碧山
笑而不答心自閑
桃花流水杳然去
別有天地非人間

Conversation in the Mountains - Li Bai

You ask me why it is I wish to stay in the jade green mountains;
I laugh, making no response; my heart is free from care.
Peach blossoms and running water go, leaving no trail.
There exists a heaven and earth beyond the world of man.

I love 別. Such a varied-meaning character: parting and 'don't' and outside of and beyond. I suppose they all tie in together. I guess that's one of the great joys and frustrations of studying Chinese? Tying all those meanings together, learning when it's one, when it's another. Learning how to piece it all together & appreciate the unsaid.
