From CMX website back covers Vol 2: Poor Kanoko. What has she gotten herself into? She refused to believe that she's Tsubame's destined lover from the past, so now she's determined to help him find out who really is. But the butterfly-shaped birthmark that's supposed to connect them has a way of turning up on the most unlikely people! Vol 3: If Kanoko is the reincarnation of Agemaki, then who is her destined lover? It might be Tsuchiya, but he thinks he's fated to be with Maya, Kanoko's sister. Maya's trying to figure out where she stands with Kaneko, a singer from the boy band Splash. Meanwhile, Prince Arata, another member of Splash, only has eyes for Kanoko. And wait till you see her radical makeover! Vol 4: So it turns out that Arata, leader of the hit idol group "Splash," was Kanoko's benefactor - the nobleman Sakakibara - in her past life. Just when Tsubame realizes his true feelings for Kanoko, she starts to see the good in Arata. Now Tsubame is going to have to fight for Kanoko's love, destined or otherwise! Vol 5: After resisting Tsubame's overtures for so long and becoming convinced that he is not her destined lover, Kanoko's feelings for him have nevertheless begun to deepen. Meanwhile, Mike is convinced he has met Tsubame's past-life true love, the other "Agemaki." Once again, Kanoko must dive into the past to try and find some answers. Vol 6: It's all over between Kanoko and Tsubame ... or is it? Tsubame thinks he's met his true past-life love and Kanoko's trying to figure out how she feels about Arata, the boy band singer. But they can't just shake their true feelings for one another. And Mike's about to drop a bomb from the past that will change everything.
Some points: - These 5 volumes have been sitting on tbr pile since almost a year. I read volume #1 a year ago. - I don't like Tsubame until the end. Kanoko chose him but I prefer Arata. I'm shallow ;) after what he said in volume 5 or 6 about his feelings. - I'm glad Mike is ending up where he is. - I didn't expect a couple of the twists. - Kanoko's attitudes remindes me of Haruki from Ouran High when she said another weirdos (or how she collected weirdos when Arata first showd up! I laughed so hard) - NG life has similar theme about past life and characters are conflicting between choosing destined love and this life love. Same theme, different settings. Main character here is Kanoko a girl, whereas the other one is a boy and he's freaking out a lot. - At the end, we really don't know why Kanoko's past life kept rejected Arata's one. Maybe she was afraid of going with him was like moving to a different cage and she wasn't as free (?) - Another theme is each character's truth is different - similar to The record of a fallen vampire. - Lots of fun stuffs.
Bottom line, what fun and great series. I like it a lot.

Yay, you finally read it! Interesting that you prefer Arata! I didn't like him much. By the end I could respect him, but... I love Tsubame. He's too cute! And Mike is awesome :D
I really love all the themes in this series-I agree that it's a stronger story than DG. As for Kanoko's past, I think you could be right about her not wanting to be "trapped" by the relationship. If she'd gone along with him, she'd probably feel indebted to him because of their positions in society-it wouldn't be a relationship of equals (and even in the present, she doesn't seem to see herself as Arata's "equal"...). Hmmm...

I didn't like Arata at the beginning since it's obvious that he's obsessed with Agemaki. But after meeting his sister and he explained to Kanoko that yes he was obsessed but eventually he saw her for herself. But moot point since Kanoko chose Tsubame :) I'm glad Mike is happy at the end :) Do you know the author has a new series about 2 cousins? I think it's supernatural and there is a glass guy (score!)

Ooh, I'd forgotten about her new series! The last thing I remembered her working on was some manga adaption of a video game or something... but the new series looks cool. Glasses, yesssss!! It's great to find an author with similar taste to my own :D Oh!!! The first volume of the series just came out a few days ago! Soooooo putting that on my next CD Japan order! Thanks for mentioning it, haha!
