"But seriously, reading it just made me mad because Elle/Alley is way too disagreeable." Right? She flew off the handle at tiny little things. I also think the setting is a bit unbelievable. Sure he damaged her script but that doesn't mean that he should compensate that with the house.
" Also, I don't remember if I had a problem with her using "Daddy"." It was nitpicking of my part :)
"You wrote "I'm curious about" " heh, I meant to say "I'm curious about Miyake" but forgot his name and was too lazy to look it up :) - I wonder why he went along with Yoshizawa who by the way seems to me like a tornado! I edited the post to add it now. I think I'll check out the preview on cmx and vol 2 to have a better feel of the series.
Yoshizawa is Tsubame, right? I think so, but I remember him more by his given name. Yeah, tornado-like is one way to describe him... :D I think the story gets into more detail about the friendship between those two, so if you keep reading you won't have to be curious! And I agree that Tsubame is an unusual male character for shoujo manga-off the top of my head, Maki from IHY♥ and Tamaki from Ouran are the only others I can think of who aren't afraid to cry. (Maybe Leo from Beast Master too?) And they're all characters I'd consider some of my favourites from manga... What does that say about me??
"... NetComics gets farther along and someone can tell me Elle's stopped being a brat, I'll try it again" Me, too. It's hard to believe she's going to keep up being like this the whole series. "Lather, rinse, repeat" can only take the series so far!

Episode 6: Swallow at the lake - Natsume helped a bird to meet a man who helped it in the past. Episode 7: a little fox's hat - Natsume went on a study trip and met a fox (kitsune) - Natsume's adopted family showed him how they felt. Episode 8: "eternal dream/fleeting light!" - a man who used to see a youkai. Episode 9: “Ayakashi Exorcism”/youkai exorcism Natsume meets a popular actor named Natori Shuuichi who can also see spirits, and has a side job as an exorcist.

I'm marathonning the rest of season 1 and season 2 of this anime over a few days. It's very good. Check it out if you have time. I certainly will get the dvd if it ever gets licensed, and will get the manga for sure - I'm just waiting for a few more volumes so I can go through a reading binge. HA

Episode 27: The name of a monster: what a sweet tea cup. Episode 28: Ukihara Village: what a nice and misunderstood youkai. Friend protects friend and worries about them. Episode 29: False Friend Natsume is approached by someone he knew from elementary school. He wants nothing to do with them, but they threaten to reveal his secret: that he can see Youkai, if he doesn't come along with them. He reluctantly goes with them, and is taken to meet a strange girl... - what a nice episode, sad - like most of them! Episode 30: young days: Midterms are over, and Natsume leaves on a trip with Nishimura, Kitamoto, and Sasada. He realizes that the scenery he's viewing from the train is from one of the places he grew up in, when he was passed around from one family to the next. He'd thought he didn't have any good memories of the time, but then he remembers what happened when he lived there... - In the last 2 episodes, we had glimpses of Natsume pre high-school. Poor Natsume. - I'm glad there is a 3rd season. I'd get DVD if they get licensed.

Yay, you finally read it! Interesting that you prefer Arata! I didn't like him much. By the end I could respect him, but... I love Tsubame. He's too cute! And Mike is awesome :D
I really love all the themes in this series-I agree that it's a stronger story than DG. As for Kanoko's past, I think you could be right about her not wanting to be "trapped" by the relationship. If she'd gone along with him, she'd probably feel indebted to him because of their positions in society-it wouldn't be a relationship of equals (and even in the present, she doesn't seem to see herself as Arata's "equal"...). Hmmm...

I didn't like Arata at the beginning since it's obvious that he's obsessed with Agemaki. But after meeting his sister and he explained to Kanoko that yes he was obsessed but eventually he saw her for herself. But moot point since Kanoko chose Tsubame :) I'm glad Mike is happy at the end :) Do you know the author has a new series about 2 cousins? I think it's supernatural and there is a glass guy (score!)

Ooh, I'd forgotten about her new series! The last thing I remembered her working on was some manga adaption of a video game or something... but the new series looks cool. Glasses, yesssss!! It's great to find an author with similar taste to my own :D Oh!!! The first volume of the series just came out a few days ago! Soooooo putting that on my next CD Japan order! Thanks for mentioning it, haha!
