“This is my kinda weather,” Dee said, tilting his head back, eyes closed behind his sunglasses as he soaked up the sun. He and Ryo had stripped down to their trunks and were stretched out on the deck of their boat, making the most of the good weather while it lasted.
“Mm.” Face down beside him, Ryo was half drowsing, his head pillowed on folded arms. It was hard to believe than only yesterday they’d been at work, alternating between stifling in their small office and roasting as they pounded the sidewalks of New York, following leads that ended up going nowhere.
“Too bad we haveta be back at work in a couple days.”
“I don’t even wanna think about that, at least not until we’re back at the marina.”
“You’re right, forget about work; it don’t exist when we’re out here. We should make that a rule; no mentionin’ work at all when we’re on the boat.”
“So shut up about it already.” Ryo rolled onto his side and squinted at his lover. “How am I supposed to forget about it if you keep talking about it?”
“Good point.” Dee turned over too. “How ‘bout I make ya forget about everything with some hot summer lovin’?”
“Right here on deck?” Ryo raised an eyebrow.
“Why not? We’re miles from anywhere, not another boat in sight. ‘Bout the only things likely to see are the seabirds and the sun.”
“Well, when you put it like that…” Ryo trailed off, grinning.
“Babe, I’ll put it any way ya want me too.”
Ryo snorted. “That has to be one of the corniest lines you’ve ever come out with.”
“So, is that a yes?” Dee leaned over his lover.
“Yes.” Ryo reached for him, and they made love beneath the hot August sun.
