A/N: Double drabble.
Maria Lane was born into a wealthy family, but even as a child, she’d been aware of how much injustice there was in the world. She could have ignored it, lived a life of privilege, even luxury, but instead she’d joined a convent, pledging herself to the service of others, in Christ’s name.
She’d taken her inheritance and used it to fund an orphanage in a rundown part of the city, and she’d never regretted the choices she’d made, but caring for orphaned children, especially in one of America’s most expensive cities, had not been easy. No matter how careful she was with her money, she’d always known it wouldn’t last forever, and then she’d have to apply for grants, look into other ways to raise the necessary funds.
The Blessed Hope Orphanage had known its share of hard times, but Mother Lane’s faith had never wavered. She’d trusted that God would provide for his children in their time of need, and so far, that had always been the case.
And whenever she needed a little extra help, Dee was always there, finding ways to provide whatever Mother and her charges needed. He must surely be an angel in disguise.
