“We’ve been spoiled,” Jack said, sounding as weary as he looked. “Meriel was such an easy baby. I can’t believe we thought we were capable of doing it all over again with another one.”
“I think that’s the main problem.” Ianto sank back into bed beside his husband. “We didn’t just get one, we got two. Should’ve returned one of them to the stork as being surplus to requirements.”
Jack huffed a small, weak laugh. “Which one would you give up, if you had the choice?”
Ianto didn’t even need to think. “Neither of them. They may drive me to exhaustion, make me think I’m losing what’s left of my mind, such as it is, but they’re ours, we made them, so we’re stuck with them. They’ll grow out of the baby stage eventually. We just have to outlast them.”
“Right, and after the baby stage comes the toddler stage, the terrible twos, and whatever follows that.”
Ianto groaned. “Just kill me now.”
“I could, but you’d just come back.”
“At least I might get a few minutes’ rest.”
“We should consider ourselves lucky we got an easy starter baby. If we’d had the twins first…”
“Doesn’t bear thinking about.”
