There are times the Doctor truly envies his companions; when their travels with him come to an end, they can always go home, because unlike him, they have homes, and in most cases families, they can return to. He doesn’t. Not anymore.
The worst part is that he sacrificed his homeworld and his people in an effort to be rid of the Dalek threat for good, but he failed. The Daleks still exist, while the people of Gallifrey and their entire planet have been wiped out of existence.
He can go anywhere, and any time, but he can’t go home.
