“Wow! Look at that view, you can see half of Manhattan from up here!” Ryo stared out the window at New York, spread out below him. This was far from the tallest skyscraper in the city, but the buildings between it and the Hudson River were all lower, providing an unimpeded view as far as New Jersey. Not that everyone would consider that a positive selling point. It was moot anyway, since the apartment wasn’t up for sale.
Dee wandered over to join his lover. “Havin’ a view is fine, but I wouldn’t wanna live somewhere like this even if I could afford the rent. Apartments in this kind of high-rise don’t have any character, it’s all boxlike rooms with plate glass windows to make the most of the view. Hard to make somewhere like this feel cosy.”
“I suppose. I like seeing the city from a different perspective though. Most of the time, we’re down on the streets with everything towering above us, but from up here, the people look about the size of ants.”
“Maybe that’s why the folks who live in places like this don’t care about the man on the street They don’t even see us.”
