There were times when Ianto was forced to wonder whether he and Jack were superfluous as parents. Oh, they had their uses, mainly for changing dirty nappies, giving baths, and providing bottles of milk, but for practically everything else their daughter had her nanny.
Even now, as she was exploring her home and learning to walk, whenever she bumped herself or took a tumble, it wasn’t her daddies she turned to for comfort. Not that she got hurt often, since Nosy was always there to steer her away from potential danger, or to cushion her inevitable falls with its soft, fluffy body.
At first, Ianto had gone running at the first whimper or sniffle, only to have his hugs rebuffed in favour of a softer, warmer embrace, and thick fur that soaked up tears far better than a cotton shirt could. Then he’d tried stepping back and letting Nosy deal with most mishaps, but he didn’t know if that was the right thing to do. Meriel needed to know that she could turn to her parents for hugs and comfort, not just her Fluff.
His hugs might not be as soft as Nosy’s, but they held just as much love.
