A/N: Triple drabble.
Dee paused with his takeaway coffee cup halfway to his lips as Drake entered the squad room. Uncharacteristically, the usually dishevelled man was immaculately turned out. His suit jacket fit him perfectly, his shirt was ironed, his tie neatly knotted and free from food stains. He was clean-shaven, his hair was tidy, and his shoes looked freshly polished. Nothing he was wearing even clashed.
Without taking his eyes off his friend, Dee slowly lowered the cup to his desk, somehow managing to set it down without spilling it. He’d been desperate for a caffeine boost a few minutes ago, and hadn’t even taken a sip yet, but the sight of Drake Parker, archetypal rumpled detective, looking so smart drove everything else out of his mind.
“Who’re you and what did ya do with the real Drake Parker?” he demanded.
At his own desk, Ryo looked up from the ubiquitous paperwork and peered over the top of his reading glasses. “Morning, Drake. You’re looking smart, is it a court day?”
“Nope!” Drake stood straight and taller than usual, simply because he wasn’t slouching for once. “This is the new me. I let JJ pick out my clothes, and from the way everyone’s staring, I’m guessing I must look pretty good.”
“JJ does have good taste.” Ryo smiled. “You look very stylish.”
“Thanks, Ryo. The old untidy and depressed Drake Parker is gone, I decided I’ve been letting the squad down for way too long, so JJ’s helping me to update my image.”
“That’s not the only thing I’m helping him with,” JJ said, breezing into the room looking just as immaculate as Drake, but in more eye-catching colors.
“We don’t need to hear about THAT,” Dee grumped.
“No, silly, I mean I’m helping Drakey be more optimistic.”
Drake grinned. “It’s working.”
