Weather Charms

Weather Charms is a collection of three new pieces of music that I have finished over the course of the last five months. These tracks are attempts at making something like a series of mental field recordings - momentary sections of a changing inner landscape where the "negative space" in the recording is amplified to become equal to the actual notes I play on my instruments. I am not an isolated creature, obviously, and I would like the music to bridge the gap between how I felt and where I was in the world. That is the plan, if there is a plan. Adriana Bogdan took the gorgeous cover photograph(s).

Jared Diamond writes: "(...)neither life nor history is an enterprise for those who seek simplicity or consistency." I think the music is scattered, abrasive and sleepy, but trying to listen to it all with a bit of distance, I can say that I am very pleased with the results. I want to write and record proper songs (again) some time, and I especially want to write something encouraging and happy, since I frequently feel courageous and happy, but in the middle of all my island bliss, the last couple of months have felt a little... dire, and yetttt againnnnnnn I think a central theme that has emerged on Weather Charms is anxiety and a host of general, non-specific worries.

Please listen, if you are curious, and let me know if you want a copy and have trouble downloading it through the web site.

On that note, here are more pictures of our wonderful village:
