I agree with your commentary on this particular situation, but I disagree with your idea that someone who loves someone else can't hurt them in such a horrific way, and this is why: broken people love brokenly. I think for both you and I (I'm making assumptions based on our shared values and other things you've told me about yourself), it's unfathomable that we could ever be with someone who would violate us in this way, and certainly we would never stay with someone who did so. On the other hand, though, there are terribly dysfunctional relationships between people who love to the best of their ability, but it's all wrong, for various reasons. Now to describe it as "love" or "not love" is semantics, but to try to pigeon hole people in their own version of love? It's impossible, because as you say Now, if I heard about such a situation in RL I wouldn't dare to judge it either way, because I wouldn't be able to tell what people involved were really feeling. We can't possibly understand that because we've never (thankfully) experienced anything like that.
