[+] I like to go to tumblr and put in my favorite tags and just scroll...so I put in "Bethyl" which is the name squish for The Walking Dead characters Beth and Daryl, and this picture came up:
This is significant only because I WROTE THE FIC THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT. LOL. I love it.
[+] I am watching a historical commentary on the film Gone With the Wind and all the things from the book that had to be changed to make the film "audience friendly" (i.e. Belle Watling couldn't be a whore, but could own a saloon; Rhett could be a rascal but not a questionable figure who did bad things in the War or who slept with prostitutes) are so interesting, oh the days before films were really rated. But the one thing that's been repeated a few times here that's just crazy to me is that Rhett could not appear to be a RAPIST. By the time I was 21 I had read that book several times, and I'd seen the film many times, too, and it never ever occurred to me that anyone would interpret Rhett's actions with Scarlett as rape. So it made me curious. Have any of you who are familiar with either the book or the movie considered Rhett's behavior as that of a rapist?
I think because Rhett's love for Scarlett is so well shown (in both book and film), and even though his frustration with Scarlett comes to a head and he does, in a drunken state, aggressively go after her, it was always clear to me that Scarlett responded to his passion. Plus, I've always loved the scene that leads to that moment anyway, where Rhett is telling her that Ashley only wants her body, whereas he, Rhett, wants her mind and heart and body--he desires all of her, and sees her for who she really is, and well, *sigh* isn't Rhett the tragic figure in all of this, even more so than stupid, obtuse Scarlett. He's the one who always got my sympathy, and not just because I always tend to identify with male characters more.
Anyway, if anyone wants to talk about it, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
[+] My new job is going great. I love it, so happy! And I'm making WAY more money than I expected to make, and all my insurance (medical, dental, and vision) is paid. SO AWESOME!
