GUH! This fanfic is like a shot to the heart. I don't even know what to say. You are an artist.

She feels like Locke's silently laughing at her, though he makes no outward indication, not even a smile on his lips.

Perfect! Because Shannon might have that reaction anyway, and Locke certainly causes people to have that reaction. It's excellent characterization for them BOTH.

So what it boils down to is this: Boone knew everything about her and loved her anyway. And by the time she understands that, it's too late.

This one makes me want to cry.

Also, I really love the non-linear structure here.

Sidenote: ...So, what you're saying is that I need to start working on my acting career, so that, the next time Ian starts a new show, I can be cast as his love interest?

Well, let's hope his serial co-star dating ends in Atlanta, but just in case...get some headshots taken, okay?

Thanks for saying you liked the structure (or lack thereof)--it just sort of played like a mishmash, but since I envisioned Shannon in the depth of her grief while it was happening, it worked for me. I'm glad it worked for you too!

And thanks for the remark about the Shannon & Locke characterization--I think the reason I never wrote much fanfic for this fandom was because the characters sort of intimidated (I so worried about getting Sawyer's voice so much that I rarely tried), so that's a really nice thing to hear.

Someday you'll have to explain to me what it was about Jack that made you love him. I imagine you could write essays about that too? Or not? I just don't get it with Jack.

You're welcome!

Normally, I might say it was the daddy issues, but since the alternate title for LOST is Daddy Issue Island that doesn't really work. So maybe it's the hero complex (as I tend to be a sucker for that to a certain extent--the whole reluctant leader thing), and I like brunettes. LOL. I'll think about, and maybe I'll get back to you someday with a more serious answer. I just know that Jack had me from the moment he opened his eyes and saw the shoe hanging from the tree. And I shipped Jack/Kate from the moment she stitched him up. My friends all loved him, too. During the finale, when Flocke hit him in the head with the rock, we all screamed simultaneously. My friend's husband said our reaction was way scarier than what was happening on screen ( ... )

Um, Boone AND a Backstreet Boys reference?!!

Dear Lord. Are you trying to kill me?!

(She loves Boone. She hates Boone. She does not like him. She doesn't know why he loves her. She does know why he can't stand to look at her most of the time.) Perfection.

LOL, BSB! When I was doing the math for the years they were teenagers, 1998 came up and I just couldn't help myself.

So great, right? Of course Shannon loves BSB, and saw them in concert when Mandy Moore was opening for them, for sho.

And Boone would never admit he liked them too.

I was a teenager in 1998. I can assure you that your assumption that they'd have been fans is pretty freaking accurate! Haha!!

I think "I Want It That Way" was my favourite... oh, or maybe "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely"... Dear Lord! I can't decide!! Hahahaha! Oh, the dilemma!

Now I'm listening to all their old songs on Youtube! This is your fault!

"Listen, baby, I'm sorry. Just wanna tell you don't worry. I will be late; don't stay up and wait for me. Say again? You're dropping out. My battery is low! So you know, we're going to a place nearby. Gotta go."

Yeah... "The Call" was my favorite... *heads over to YouTube to join waltzmatildah for a BSB party*

That pic... Poor Boone! NEver knew they dated though!

Loved this fic! I always was just mad at Shannon for using him the way she did. She really ripped him apart! But reading this I kinda feel sorry for her as well. Boone's mother was REALLY cruel to her and she really was all alone.

I miss Boone :(

Oh thank you. I agree, I had to go back and rewatch stuff to remember that I eventually didn't hate Shannon so much. But it took time.

Oh my god. I just couldn't resist so I took the laptop anyway and now I'm just. Blank, pretty blank. Because you are so fucking awesome it's not even funny. I've still only seen the first season of LOST and I can't even tell you how amazing this was to read, especially after Boone's dead and I'm pretty devastated by that (even though I knew it was going to happen, and I was just trying to imagine what it was like for all those people who didn't even KNOW it. I love everything about this, I love that you chose that particular scene, I LOVE that it's Shannon-centric and how you're totally in her head. I love that this documents the progress of a relationship and all the various facets of how they're so twisted and tender and everything in between.

I really liked how Shannon just sort of seemed to know throughout the piece and that in the beginning it had only been a power game (that feels very IC to me), to get on Sabrina's nerves (I don't know if she actually comes in on the show, but I did get a good hint of their relationship from ( ... )

You'll see eventually that I spoiled you for certain things in S2, but I had to, to give an authentic look into Shannon's head, and I did it in such a way that you don't know you're being spoiled, so it's all good. :D

I am thrilled you liked it though, honestly. It's always nerve wracking to write people you haven't written at all much, but it was a lot of fun to research and get into her head, and realize that of course she loved Boone, how could she not have? He was her brother. The breadth and depth of that love are so accurately portrayed in Maggie's performance when sits beside Boone's body. Talk about GUT WRENCHING. It destroys me every time, and reminds me that I don't hate Shannon. It was good for me to go back and rewatch stuff and find some empathy for her.

It also makes the series finale episode more poignant for me, but I won't get into that since you have a while before you get there!

So, in conclusion: YAY! I'm glad it made you happy. And I hope it contributes to you getting better quickly! *pats you*
