Ergo = bad?

So I'm in another parenting forum with an emphasis on attachment style parenting/baby wearing. I mentioned I use an ergo and was instantly told I was doing things wrong/the ergo sucks/etc. I was under the impression that it was one of the best ssc? There was some drama over the Ergo a few years ago. From what I can remember, a company that was stripping and overdying Ergos in really neat colors (when all they had was black/cranberry/khaki/critters/blue colors) got her selling license taken away from her because she was modifying the carriers. And then a little bit later, Ergo basically forced Beco to change their design, which is why they switched from their 4g style (which was very similar to the Ergo) to the Beco Butterfly. It annoyed the babywearing community because the Ergo was a buckled Asian Baby Carrier (like a mei tai), so people got mad at Ergo for trying to put other SSC companies (including ones that were still being made by WAHMs) out of business. Obviously that didn't actually happen, though.

I wonder if it's because Ergos have become more mainstream and I also don't think they're made in the USA anymore. I know some people also don't like how the body size is shorter and therefore might not work as long with bigger children. Also, it's not usually recommended as a newborn carrier even though Ergo tries to sell it as one.

These are just my guesses!
