Last weekend, I watched the most recent - and likely final - Star Trek reboot movie, Star Trek Beyond.
I loved it, of course. It was bittersweet, this being the first film since Leonard Nimoy's passing and so close after the sudden death of Anton Yelchin. (20 days older than me. I was and am and will for a long time be very affected by his death.)
Two of the things
ice_elf and I agreed on were that the women were awesome, and that any combination of Kirk/Bones/Spock makes sense. I can't decide whether I prefer the idea of Bones protecting his BFF's boyfriend because he knows it'll kill Kirk if anything happens to Spock (and they have learned to get along because it's Important To Kirk), or whether I just straight-up like Bones/Spock now, or whether they are genuinely in a little OT3. Or whether I'll just take any of the above. I mean, my first instinct was Option #1 but.
But that's an aside.
I was going over my old entries, searching out some old STXI fic that I wanted to put on AO3, spurred on by the movie (and yesterday's big anniversary - happy 50th, Star Trek!) ... and I found
my reaction post to the first reboot movie! And I found this line, towards the end:
"I actually hope they make more. I enjoyed it a whole hell of a lot, and I would seriously love it if they did a sequel (or two, or even three). :D"
... That sentence seems rather sad now. Because with Anton Yelchin - Chekov - gone, I don't even know that I'd want them to make more without him. So three films - two sequels - is as many as we're getting.
But I'm glad that the movies we did get were as much fun as they have been. :)
