(no subject)

I'm semi-sober, tired, somewhat depressed, overstressed, looking at a blank word processor document, hungering for crackfic, and only now aware that it's 4/20. I'd apologize for anything I'm about to do to my cast of characters (and by that, I mean Bill), except I'm really not sorry.

So before I let myself get away with all kinds of shenanigans, have something I wrote the last time I was drunk.

But before that, three of the drabbles are finished (but one is going to be rewritten), so those'll be up at a sane hour. AEM 28 is also up on Serebii and has been for a couple of days. 500 hits, no comments so far. Not that I'm trying to fish for replies, but to those of you who occasionally like complaining to me that your work doesn't get that much attention, please keep that in mind.

And I somehow managed to win the Pokeprompts challenge. You'd think I'd have PMed the mods already with what I want done with the prizes, but I can't decide on a charity. I'd like to give it to a pretty cool cancer research group, but there's three of them that are all cool. *facebury* Will get to that at a sane hour as well.

Anyway, that thing I mentioned three paragraphs ago!

I have no idea what the fuck this is. It's not really headcanon because it's now branching off into unbased territory. I guess this is more or less the dredges of concepts to fill out details in a fanuniverse that will never be named or used completely. (Even though it's my headcanon that Bill has tried half of these for "research purposes.")

Because when I can't walk straight, I'm guessing this is a suitable alternative to doing anything productive.

Drugs - Holistic/Recreational
Pokémon have a wide variety of fascinating alternative uses. And by that, I mean "this is the shit Professor Oak hopes you never learn." Basically speaking, sometimes, trainers and college students who were formerly trainers get creative, and sometimes, they produce data that would make The Erowid Vault (who is primarily responsible for this entry) envious. For a quick run-down, this is the list of possible substances that can be used to alter one's physical state and/or senses of perception. Or, in layman's terms, get fucking wasted.

Note: While psychic abilities and attacks can produce a kind of high, these are less considered drugs and more considered party tricks. Ergo, the alternate uses of Hypnosis and other such moves will not be listed here. Moreover, other attacks such as those of the Electric, Ghost, and Poison types can also potentially produce a high, but that's only if you're lucky and trying. Otherwise, abusing such attacks are highly ill-advised and will most likely land you in the hospital. They're therefore not listed below for the same reason.

Also not listed here are drugs derived from the mutilation of Pokémon. (For example, slicing a Cacnea open and drinking its bodily fluids is an alternate way of obtaining peyote. The problem is that this is horrendously inhumane and can lead to a lengthy list of charges that includes Pokémon abuse.) The exception is if the body part naturally falls off (e.g., Paras mushrooms) or if the Pokémon in question would never notice (Slowpoke) and if, in both cases, the part simply grows back.

Leech Seed
If crushed or boiled in a tea, Leech Seed acts like a powerful sedative. In small doses, it induces feelings of euphoria, hallucinations, and alterations of perceptions of time. In larger doses, it can induce an extremely deep, comatose-like sleep. Note: Leech Seed must be boiled or crushed prior to use. Eating them raw triggers Leech Seed's in-battle effect upon contact with tissue within the digestive system, and the resulting tendrils and energy drain have the potential to asphyxiate victims within seconds of ingestion.

Beedrill Honey
The interactions between Beedrill's natural venom as a Poison-type and the honey it produces creates one of the few Poison-based substances that can be safely ingested as well as one of the most versatile natural drugs in existence. Beedrill honey can essentially be used in any place where one may want normal honey or sugar (baked goods, tea, raw, candy, and so forth), and because of that, it can be virtually indistinguishable by the non-observant upon first glance. However, what distinguishes it from normal honey (read: Combee honey or honey produced by non-Pokémon bees) is its aftereffects. Beedrill honey is a powerful hallucinogen along the same lines as peyote. It possesses the ability to calm the imbiber as well as induce feelings of euphoria and insight, sharpen sensations, shift the user's perception of time and reality, and open the user to deep, spiritual experiences. It is also dangerously addictive.

Combee Honey
Unlike Beedrill honey, Combee honey (typically referred to in-game as Honey) has virtually no effect on humans except maybe that it soothes a sore throat. However, it's catnip to Pokémon and produces an extremely calming effect on them. It is also dangerously addictive (if you're a Pokémon).

Sleep Powder and Spore
Both Sleep Powder and Spore produce basically the same results. They're primarily powerful sedatives that are actually frequently processed and used in sleep aids. They can also be used by trainers raw in small doses for the same effect. (As in, they will put you to sleep, and you will be out cold for a good while.) Attempting to resist falling asleep under the effects of Sleep Powder or Spore has been known to produce extremely vivid hallucinations coupled with a feeling of full-body numbness. Note: Attempting to take Poison Powder or Stun Spore recreationally will kill you.

Tochukaso (Paras Mushrooms)
Tochukaso are noted for their remarkable healing properties. However, their abilities to extend the life of a user can only be attained when they're processed. (Typically, this involves parboiling and drying them first and then using them in soups, teas, or ground up and put into herbal medicine.) Otherwise, raw tochukaso are part of the Amanita family of mushrooms and are close relatives to Amanita muscaria ("magic mushrooms"). All of the effects of magic mushrooms are identical to those of raw tochukaso, including but not limited to out-of-body experiences, synesthesia, and full-body relaxation. As a note, TinyMushroom and Big Mushroom are simply varieties of tochukaso, hence their popularity among collectors (and unfortunate tochukaso addicts). Also as a note, BalmMushroom is not related to the tochukaso mushroom and is actually a member of the Cantharellus family - meaning it's valued highly as a rare edible delicacy, not as a psychoactive drug.

Politoed Mucus
It should be noted that attempting to lick Politoed automatically makes you an idiot with a death wish. (It's a powerful narcotic that can induce paralysis on the digestive system if swallowed by itself. In large doses, it could make the tongue swell, causing the user to choke and die.) However, soaking marijuana in mucus collected from Politoed boosts all of the potential effects of cannabis when smoked. On the other hand, this is also borderline inhumane because in order to collect enough mucus for such an experience, one would have to keep a Politoed away from water for roughly twenty-four hours and then scrape its protective mucus coating off its skin.

Slowpoke Tail
Slowpoke naturally secrete a very sweet, very addictive substance from their tails in order to attract aquatic Pokémon. To humans, the substance acts as a mild sedative and potent euphoric empathogen - meaning, it works like tabs of E, only without the energy boost. Instead, it induces feelings of love, inner peace, increased awareness and appreciation for the world around the user, and joy. In short, it makes you want to sit around and talk about how amazing the world is. While there are ways to harvest the sap from Slowpoke tails in a humane manner, it's usually easier and faster to cut the tail off, which is why this drug is also borderline inhumane (despite the fact that Slowpoke can grow their tails back).

Gastly Gas and Dream Mist
Similar in nature and production to one another, Gastly Gas and Dream Mist are essentially bottled gases produced by Pokémon (Gastly and the Munna family, respectively) that have strong sedative and hallucinogenic properties if inhaled. While both have similar effects (sleepiness, audio and visuals, et cetera), the aftereffects are notably different. Dream Mist is primarily a sedative, resulting in putting the user to sleep and inducing vivid dreams if taken responsibly. (The onset of hallucinations occurs when the user attempts to resist falling asleep.) Gastly Gas, meanwhile, is primarily used to paralyze (although in large doses, it can act as a sedative in the same vein as Dream Mist) and can actually lead to increased feelings of paranoia and panic after the high wears off.

Blissey Eggs
While Chansey eggs are simply extremely nutritious eggs, Blissey eggs are extraordinarily potent euphorics. One bite induces feelings of altruism and joy, but a whole egg induces feelings of oneness with the universe, love for everything, and unwavering happiness. This feeling may last for a full day before wearing off, although some claim these effects to be permanent.

Smeargle Paint
Huffing the fumes from a can of paint collected from a Smeargle's tail produces the exact same effects as huffing glue. It also makes you look like a moron, but hey, you're high!

Shuckle Berry Juice
If processed, berry juice collected from Shuckle can be used for a wide variety of medicinal and non-medicinal (nutritional) purposes. However, if it's imbibed raw, it's both a powerful euphoric and an equally powerful aphrodisiac, especially for Pokémon. For humans, small doses creates a buzz and increased pheromone production, but large doses generates increased feelings of love and contentment as well as a heightened sex drive. It's basically exactly like taking ecstasy.

Drugs - Other
Synthetic and item-based drugs. Yes, I glossed over most of the healing items because, to be honest, a lot of them just have the same effects as abusing real-world medication. So they'd have a lot of the effects you'd imagine them to have, based on warnings you'd find in your own medicine cabinet.

Potion
Among its list of active ingredients, the various potions also contain opiate derivatives to act as a pain reliever for Pokémon. Hence, some human users drink potions for the same reason someone might drink cough syrup: to get the sedative high produced by opium. In some communities, such a problem has gotten so bad that the higher-end potions (Super, Hyper, and Max, each of which possess increasingly stronger amounts of the potion line's opiate in order to counter the pain of increasingly serious injuries induced by higher-leveled battles) are completely unavailable to trainers who don't have a certain number of badges to prove that they have appropriately leveled Pokémon that would need something stronger than a normal Potion. Note: The other liquid healing items (Ether, Elixir, Full Heal, Antidote, et cetera) have similar properties and therefore similar effects. However, because they're not normally the go-to solution for pain relief, they carry less opiates than the Potion line and therefore produce lesser results. This doesn't stop some people from abusing those as well, however.

Rare Candy
Have no effect on humans. (They're just really delicious.) To Pokémon, however, they're an energy booster, like a shot of caffeine. Same thing with most other food-based items, like the Old Gateau, Casteliacone, Lava Cookie, and berries.

EnergyPowder
Snorting EnergyPowder does exactly what it sounds like it would do: increase a user's energy. It also has the negative effect of removing inhibitions, so if, for example, you think you can lift a truck with that energy boost you received, you will attempt to do so. It's also known to dull pain, meaning you're more likely to hurt yourself in the process of lifting a truck because you honestly don't give a fuck about your pain threshold at that moment.

Heal Powder
Conversely, Heal Powder produces a sedative feeling, meaning you'll feel a rush, but you'll most likely want to sit around, hang out, and talk about the universe with absolutely everyone.

Revival Herb, Salveyo Weed, and Remeyo Weed
Work exactly like cannabis when smoked. Out of these three, only Salveyo weed still works like cannabis when baked. The only way to imbibe Salveyo weed without feeling these effects is to boil it in a tea, whereby both the heat and the water break down its effects. And even then, drinking Salveyo tea when you're not paralyzed still produces a buzz. (It's a muscle relaxant normally, so… yeah.)
