Mum didn't know that I was going to fly with her to Manila last weekend. I wanted to surprise her - and real surprise she got! We arrived Friday and I came back to Saigon Tuesday the following week. Ching and I once again met up with Jimmy and Vinh for lunch today. We had lunch at Kuru Kuru Sushi Restaurant, located at 129 Nguyen Du, District 1 HCMC (5 or 6 minutes away from the New World Hotel, by foot). They have authentic Japanese dishes prepared with fresh ingredients from tuna to sake for a really tasty sushi or sashimi meal. Since Mum ( Read more... )

Minh, VNG's Chairman, and his girlfriend invited my family to a dinner a night before my sister left for Manila. We ate at An Lac Restaurant, a vegan restaurant at Pham Ngu Lao.

So my family went on a drinking night at no other place but Pham Ngu Lao in District 1. My sister and mum enjoyed watching people as they walk by or they finish bottles upon bottles of beer on a fun Friday night in Saigon.

Mum wanted to visit Serenata again before Ellaine leaves for Manila. What we love about Serenata (6B Ngo Thoi Nhiem, Q1) is the French villa architecture that is accented by perfect mood interior and garden lighting which is made more romantic with a live quartet playing classical western and romantic vietnamese music in the background.

A stone throw away from Kim, our favorite shoe vendor at 101 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia (original shoes at fake prices!), is La Fenetre Soleil - a French-inspired antique slash art deco cafe that serve ca phe sua da and yummy crepe and other light meals.
