Thursday's #happything was spotting one of the froglets in the pond in the evening. After the evening last week when they were everywhere, I hadn't seen any again and so was wondering if they'd all been scoffed by birds or cats (or hopped off to froggy life elsewhere), but I sighted one still swimming around - so they are still with us!

Wednesday's #happything, as I was cycling along the towpath between campuses for meetings, was seeing a gaggle of about seven greylag geese sailing serenely down the river. The thing that made me smile so much was that they were all gliding along in a dead straight line, looking exactly like an illustration from a children's book :-)

As I was leaving work last night there was an amazing, hoarse, shrieking noise coming from the woods below campus... rutting deer! I tiptoed along to see if I could see them, but they were too deep in the woods, no sign.

Yesterday's #happything was wandering out into the garden periodically (when it wasn't chucking down with rain!) to tadpole-watch. Every couple of seconds one comes wiggling up to the surface of the pond, hoovers up a couple of mosquito larvae and disappears again. I am waiting with excitement for them to start sprouting legs!

Today's #happything: we have tadpoles after all! I wasn't sure if they had all died, because they were so small when the frogspawn began to break up, and they seemed to have disappeared. But they were all just lurking down at the bottom of the pond. Now every time you look when the sun is out, they come swimming up to the surface, gobble a few ( Read more... )

Yesterday's # happything: I cycled back from bellringing practice along the Thames towpath, in the twilight - and got dive-bombed by numerous bats. And had to swerve round a rabbit, and was passed by a boat gently chugging along with a lantern at the front. It was absolutely magical. I feel so lucky to live where I now do.
