Book(ish) club...

May 20, 2016 12:42

Wednesday's #happything was being able to host our book club in the new house. (I'd never hosted before, because our old place was so cramped that if more than about 3 people came they would have had to sit on the floor, and several of the members are reaching the age where that wouldn't represent their idea of comfort!)

Having heard at length about the building travails at many previous book groups, everyone was dying to have a good nose around, so we had a bit of a tour before we settled down with the usual wine-n-nibbles for a good chat. (Some of which was about the book - this time Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle, which some of us had read before and everybody loved - but it has to be said we are mostly a wine-and-gossip group with occasional book chat!)

It's theoretically a book group for people who live in our old street, but everyone graciously agreed (since I am one of the most regular stalwarts) that I could keep on coming after we moved. It's lovely to keep up with all the old neighbours. (And it's a bit of a community self-help group as well - one of the older members is currently unable to get out because her husband's dementia is getting more and more severe, so lots of plans were put in place to do more to help them.)

And to cap it all, just before we sat down, after a heavy shower, there was the most amazing double rainbow across the street :-)
