“Let’s get this straight, Uchiha, I don’t trust you.”

Sasuke frowns, only slightly, and hadn’t Tsunade been watching him, she’d have missed it.

“And I don’t particularly like you either. I only allowed you to stay, with a sentence of three years probation, because of the goodness of my heart, so you have no right to show any kind of ungratefulness, you egotistical brat, understand?”

Sasuke nods firmly, and Tsunade has to do everything in her power to not laugh because she could see the slight tremble of his body, and that means he’s either afraid or trying very hard to control his anger.

Most likely the latter, Tsunade thinks.

Now, don’t misunderstand her, she doesn’t hate the guy. No. And while it is true she doesn’t particularly like him, or trust him for that matters, she is grateful of him. If only because Naruto and Sakura have been the happiest she’s ever seen them ever since Sasuke came back. So, for that, she is grateful.

Of course, that doesn’t mean she’ll make his life any easier. He needs to know that what he did caused great pain to his team for a long time. And since her beloved student doesn’t seem inclined to make him pay for her suffering, it’s up to her to do it.

Hence why, even after two years of being considered a shinobi of Konoha, he’s only recently became a Chuunin.

Sasuke remains silent while she studies him, and giving a triumphant smirk she speaks.

“I said, understand, Uchiha?”

The young man grits his teeth in annoyance, but answers anyway.

“Yes, Hokage-sama.”

She could hear the sarcasm clearly through his words, and she doesn’t mind really, the dislike is mutual between them, and she suspects it’s going to stay that way for a long time.

“Is there another reason for you to require of my presence here, Hokage-sama?”

If looks could kill, they would both be six feet under.

Tsunade smiles at him, not in a friendly manner of course.

“I heard you asked Sakura to marry you.”

Now that gets a reaction out of him, Tsunade notes, as his whole posture visibly tenses.

“Yes, I asked her hand in marriage,” he says slowly, probably suspicious of her real motives.

“And why, pray tell, is that? You two have been together for little over three years, and your time together is mostly spent on missions, training, or hanging out with friends. Only rarely you spent time alone.”

Tsunade smirks when she sees him tense up again. Of course, he must be wondering how does she knows so much about his relationship with Sakura, and maybe she’ll be merciful just this time and tell him-

“With all due respect, Hokage-sama, that is none of your business.”

-or maybe not.

“It is my business. I care about Sakura as if she were my own daughter, and I won’t have you hurting her again.”

“What makes you think I will hurt her?”

Tsunade narrows her eyes, her patience nearing a death end, as it always happens whenever she speaks to the arrogant Uchiha.

“You don’t have the best record for making her happy,” she growls.

And although she knows that’s not true, because, yes, Sasuke has the best record in making her happy as he only needs to be there with her to do so, she’s not about to tell him that.

Apparently, he doesn’t know what his presence does to Sakura as he remains silent, the ghost of a guilty expression lingering on his face. That is enough to calm somewhat her anger; the boy’s obviously sorry for doing what he did.

“Why are you marrying her, Uchiha?”

“The life of a shinobi is a dangerous one, and I would like to experience the family life before fate decides I have lived enough. Sakura thinks the same as I do,” Sasuke says what is obviously only the introduction to what his real motives for marriage are, “Bearing children out of wedlock is something my family, and I am sure Sakura’s family too, consider it unthinkable, I don’t wish to dishonor her in any way, and-”

But Tsunade doesn’t allow him to finish that sentence, she has heard enough. So, slamming her hands on her desk, she stands up and glares at her student’s object of affection.

“You. Got. Her. Pregnant.”

It isn’t a question, only a statement, and what else could she think. He doesn’t want to dishonor her? So is this marriage something he does out of duty, to not stain any further his family name? Why, that little-

Tsunade barely registers the movement of his mouth, an attempt to speak most likely, for she lungs for him ready to inflict damage. Lots, and lots of damage. She throws a punch aimed at his face, but Sasuke, making good use of his speed, avoids it just in time, however the hit collides with the side of his head, sending him flying through the wall and down the hall next to her office. She follows him, not giving him a chance to react, and taking full advantage of the certain dizziness he ought to feel right now.

She is impressed at how easily he avoids her hits, even with the concussion he probably has now, and even more impressed after realizing that not once has he raised a hand to defend himself, not even to block what little blows she manages to land. It is only after going through halls, and rooms, and floors, leaving chaos at their wake and stunned faces too afraid to do anything but watch when she manages to catch him. Grabbing his vest’s collar firmly, as she watches Sasuke struggles to breathe properly, she realizes that maybe she misjudged him, maybe he has changed for the better as Sakura and Naruto so often tell her.

For his eyes are pleading with her, for what she doesn’t know, but she’s sure she’ll find out soon.

“You… didn’t let me… finish…” he mumbles.

He is a bloody mess, and still has enough balls to stand straight, with his head held high, and look her in the eye asking her to let him finish. She orders for someone to get him some ice, and once that’s done, orders him to follow her. She knows Sakura will not be happy with her for maiming her little boyfriend, but Tsunade knows she needed this, this fight (if you could call it a fight) with him, if only to bent all her anger and frustration with the Uchiha, because now she willing to give him the benefit of doubt.

And maybe, just maybe, another chance.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
The scowl on his face is enough to scare away the nurses that might have tried to offer him help, his expression gets more and more angered as he limps his way towards Sakura’s office, the stares he is receiving make his mood all the more sour.
Once he reaches his destination, he slams open the door, startling the occupants of the room, and heads to the examination stool, sitting there.
“Sasuke!”
It’s only a gasp, but Sasuke feels his anger being soothed away by the familiar affection lacing her voice. He doesn’t pay attention to the woman that leaves the room after Sakura asks her to please come back later, and is startled when he finds himself looking at a pair of beautiful green eyes.
Beautiful? Ugh, the concussion must be worse than I thought.
“Sasuke, what…? What the hell happened to you?! Who did this?”
Her demands go unanswered, and he bask in the pleasant sensation of Sakura’s gentle hands taking care of his injuries, flinching once in a while but not minding at all. His mood has improved, and he knows that by the end of the day, the worse he’ll have are going to be bruises.
Sakura stays silent most of the healing session, commenting on the state of the injuries when she thinks he needs to know how bad it is, but never asking how it is he ended up this way. Only when she reaches his head, she inquires again.
“You’re skull is cracked. Whoever did this must have had an amazing strength…” she trails off.
Sasuke nods lightly, feeling lightheaded due to the soothing feel of her chakra in his head, healing.
You ought to know, you trained under her supervision.
When she finishes, he’s still lightheaded, but the pain is gone, replaced by a barely-there soreness. And under normal circumstances, he would have made sure to be completely alone with her before initiating any kind of close intimacy, but right now he doesn’t care or isn’t in his right mind to care. So, he reaches for her, snaking his arms around her waist, and pulls her into a gentle embrace.
“Sasuke… what happened?”
He nuzzles her neck, the closest thing to his face, and places a open-mouthed kiss under her ear, where he knows it turns her on. He smirks when he feels her go stiff, and repeats the action.
Damn it all if the hit on his head didn’t left him acting weird.
“Sasuke-”
“I was called to the Hokage’s Tower this morning,” he says, cutting off her sentence.
Sakura leans back to have a better look at his face, caressing his bruises. He winces only slightly when she touches a particularly sore spot.
“She knows about the engagement.”
Sakura smiles nervously at him, “I-I know you wanted to tell her yourself, but I was so excited and Ino was out on a mission, and my mother wasn’t home either, and I really needed to tell someone, and… she asked what had me so happy and I just couldn’t hold it in, I-”
Sasuke watches as her eyes (beautiful, beautiful green eyes) widen in realization, but before she can so much as speak, he leans in and seals her lips.
“She sends us her blessings,” he whispers and proceeds to kiss her senseless.
He can barely stand, she knows, but is determinate to explain to her, so she lets him. The wind is gentle, and soothing in a way to her riled up temper.
“As I was saying before being so rudely interrupted,” he says with some difficulty, “I do want to have children sometime soon, Sakura knows this and agrees with me. But those are not the real motives for my decision, I…”
A pause, and Tsunade sees a flash of something (care, affection, adoration?) cross his face.
“I just wish to spend as much time with her as possible without having any kind of controversy or without having rumors about her spreading around.”
There it is again, and-ah, now she knows what it is.
“I love her, and I want to spend whatever time I have left with her, without regrets.”
Love.
Of course.
