“I’m done,” said Nino, placing his empty bowl and chopsticks onto the table before speeding off to his room. Once in, he shut the door and locked it. With a grin, he retrieved his phone from his bag.
His destination in mind, Nino slid open the windows facing the main corridor and climbed out. Although it wasn’t the first time he had done it, Nino could not but help feel nervous every time he snuck out of his house.
As quickly and quietly as he could, he dashed down the corridor towards the lift. The moment he entered it, Nino heaved a sigh of relief. Hopefully, his mother nor his sister would knock on his door or anything.
The park which he was headed to was quite near his house, thus he got there before Jun did. Settling himself on a park bench, Nino waited for the latter to appear. His cheeks were still flushed from the exhilaration of sneaking out of the house to meet Jun every night.
Suddenly, something pressed against his shoulders as a warm head snuggled against his neck.
“Jun!”
“Hey, Nino. Been waiting long?” asked the taller male, sitting himself beside Nino.
“Not really,”
“Good, so where do you want to go today?” asked Jun, putting an arm around Nino’s waist.
“I can’t go anywhere far today because my mom keeps checking my room at ten ,” pouted Nino, lying against Jun’s chest.
“Then how about we stay here?”
“Sounds good,”
The pair sat on the park bench, enjoying the other’s presence and the silence. The park was unusually empty that night, but it’s not like the couple cared. All they needed was each other and nothing else.
Jun glanced at Nino who was making himself comfortable on his shoulder. Seeing the smile of bliss on Nino’s face, Jun could not help but flush as his heartbeat seemed to have increased ten folds.
“Nino,” said Jun, tilting Nino’s chin up with two fingers.
“Yes?” asked Nino, his voice shaking as he realized how close they were.
Jun couldn’t find any words that would make the perfect reply. Instead, he just moved his head closer to Nino’s so that there was a hairline worth of air in between their lips. But just as they were about to close that minute gap, a loud scream echoed throughout the park, causing the startled teens to pull apart due to reflex.
“Kazunari?” cried Nino’s mother, pointing at the both of them with a shaky finger.
“Mom!” gasped Nino in horror. His mom had found out about him and Jun! He was going to be so dead! His mom was going to kill him! “I can explain…” he added hastily.
Instead of listening to him, Nino’s mother stormed up to Nino and pulled him away from Jun, “How dare you go out with someone like him!”
“Someone like me…?” repeated Jun, wondering what Nino’s mother was talking about.
“Your father chose him over you, Kazunari!” she yelled, so loudly that the whole park could have heard her. Turning back to Jun, she snapped, “Stay away from my Kazunari, you bastard!”
Before Nino could be dragged home by his mother, someone else appeared and bitch slapped Nino’s mother across the face, “How dare you call my son a ‘bastard’!” she cried.
“Mom…please…” begged Jun, pulling his mother away from Nino’s, “Please let it go…”
Despite the sons’ protests, and the crowd that was gathering around to watch the drama, the two mothers refused to stop throwing insults at each other.
“It’s no wonder why your husband left you for me,”
“How dare you! Everybody knows you only want him for his money!”
They would have continued with their argument if a patrol police hadn’t shown up to break the two squabbling mother apart and dismiss the crowd. Hands on his mother’s shoulders, Nino led her home, face red at the embarrassment his mother had caused him. Walking away, Nino had the urge to turn around just once last time.
He wished he hadn’t. That look in saw in Jun’s eyes killed him.

“You are never to see that Matsumoto boy again, you hear me?!” yelled his mom while Nino sat quietly on the sofa. They had arrived home hours ago and his mother had been screaming at him ever since. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair at all! He didn’t care if he was grounded. He didn’t care if his games were taken away from him.
All he wanted was Jun.
The one thing he wanted the most, snatched away from him because of their parents’ mistakes. He hated his father. He hated Jun’s mother, but he definitely did not hate Jun. It wasn’t his fault.
“Please, Kazunari…” whispered his mother, weaken from the screaming and the anguish, “You have no idea how they have hurt our family,” Tired, Nino’s mother collapsed onto the floor, leaning against the sofa as her anger turned into sorrow.
“I’m sorry, mom,” Nino whispered as he hugged his mother. His mother was the only person who truly cared for him. She had single-handedly raised him and his sister. She had tried her best to provide for them. She had been his pillar of support growing up. Now, it was only right for him to man up. His mother was more important than his feelings.
“I promise I won’t have anything to do with them ever again,”
