plans

Capricon was great, except for the car accident. The Chicago in 2012 bid zines are just very cool, both story and cover art. I'll post a more detailed post as time permits, hopefully tonight.

The hotel contract is signed (finally) for ConComCon, June 5-7 at the Compass Point Inn in Surrey, British Columbia. Room rate is C$90 per night. I'll update the web site tonight.

The next SFContario meeting will be held on Sunday, March 1 at 2 PM at the Irish Embassy pub, 49 Yonge Street in Toronto.

Seattle fandom continues to discuss its options about future bids. There is strong local support for a Worldcon bid for 2013. However, practical issues need to be resolved. If plan A is not feasible, a vague proto-consensus is beginning to develop about a Westercon bid for 2012 as a plan B. In fact this might have to be an agenda item for discussion at the SWOC board meeting in March.

The possibility of a Seattle Worldcon bid for 2013 was discussed with Tim Miller from the Texas bid, so it won't be a surprise to them. (The seattlein2011 mailing list is a pretty open list; we're not controlling rumors. Decisions by an actual fan community should be done in public.) My opinion, speaking only for myself, is that I'll support a Seattle Worldcon bid for any year chosen by the group, but that 2013 is not the year I'd choose to bid for. If we find ourselves in competition with Texas, it will be friendly, like the 2002 San Jose-vs-Seattle race, and many Seattle supporters would happily support a future Texas bid.
