Yesterday my beloved and I made our trip to Chicago. Since my car is not in great shape, I decided to take the megabus from Indy to Chicago. I worked through the morning and then we headed out after a quick lunch, getting to Indy in good time. I missed a turn downtown so we ended up driving in circles for a little while looking for the parking garage where I was told I could leave my car. Once parked, I had to run around a bit to find an actual attendant to confirm my car could remain there and pay my parking fees. After that, a bit of running about to find a restroom and then we found the bus stop and settled in to wit the 15 minutes til we were supposed to start boarding.
We waited, and waited, and waited... Another passemger told us the bus was parked a couple of blocks up the road but it never appeared at our stop. Half an hour after we were supposed to have left, two bus drivers came walking down and informed us that the bus had some mechanical problems and we wouldn't be able to take it but that they were trying to get another bus for the trip. Another half an hour goes by and we get report that a replacement bus has been found. We wait another half an hour. Finally a second bus from another bus compny arrives and we stow our luggage and board only to be informed that the climate control on this bus is malfunctioning so we well be transferring to a third bus after short trip.
We ride down to the bus hub and get on yet another bus. Thinking we are now on our way, we get on the highway around Indy at the height of rush hour. Our progress through traffic is in twenty foot increments punctuated by minutes of stand-still and jerking start-and-starts. At this point I am about to pull my hair out...
The trip itself was about three and a half hours long. Mercifully I was able to sleep through over an hour of it. By the time we arrived in Chicago, we were two hours late. A testament to her wonderfulness, our friend
langs_place was still there, dutifully waiting for us. Exhausted, we headed back to her house where we met back up with
elision, ate pizza, watched Mythbusters, and then fell asleep in the soft-room's lovesacks.
