Room 213

Apr 04, 2006 23:03

Rory sat in her room, curled up in a blanket.

She had Adoration Seriously playing on her computer, and she was eating coffee ice cream with gummi bears and sprinkles.

More accurately, she was crying into coffee ice cream with gummi bears and sprinkles.

Breaking up was hard.

Confirming that it was for real? Was so much harder.

"No," Rory said, exasperated. "We broke up when he was sober. And then I was all sad and wanted to apologize, because I was mean to him, and when i went up there he was drunk and playing his banthabell and singing 'Ever the Same.'"

"...the song with the earnestness and the weeds?" Bridge asks, wide-eyed.

Rory nodded.

"I was up there when he was singing the part about holding while you're falling apart," she said, covering her teary eyes again.

"Asshole. Pitiful, but still." Parker sighed, hugging Rory's shoulders, and looked at Bridge. "You want to get her other side here?"

Bridge nods and scrambles up to sit on the bed next to Rory.

"He's not," Rory said to Parker. "He was...drunk. And sad."

"Okay, I admit I feel sorry for him, because he sounds pathetic. But still. This is just... stupid." Parker had actually started to like the guy, over the last week. And now she wanted to shake him again.

"The whole thing is, kind of," Rory mumbled. "But it's the right thing to do."

"Right for who, though?"

"Everyone. I'm not messing up his future," Rory said, sniffling. "And he's not doing it himself."

"Future? What about his present? How does breaking up help? It's not like it won't still be crushingly obvious that you two were involved, if no one lies to Obi-Wan." Parker shook her head. "And maybe he *should* quit the Jedi, if they're this restrictive, and he loves you. Maybe they're not the place for him."

"But he loves being a Jedi," Rory said, crossing her arms over her knees and dropping her head onto them and hiccupping with a whole new batch of tears. "I'm not issuing an ultimatum. I want him to be happy. And this is right for him. We'd have to break up at the end of the year anyway."

"No you didn't," Parker said fiercely, maybe because this part of the discussion was hitting her own issues with Jarod. "Damnit. I get not wanting to make him choose, but why does this have to be the right choice, just because you're both made miserable about it?" She glared at Bridge. "Help me out here?"

"Personally... whatever time that anyone can have together? I think it's worth it," Bridge says with a shrug. "It's too important to let that pass by."

"I agree," Rory said quietly. "I don't know if Anakin does anymore. And his future is more important than my feelings."

Parker sighed, spooned up another bite of ice-cream, then held it out to Rory. "Here. I have nothing helpful to say. Except I'm sorry, I wish this hadn't happened, and I'm sorry you're hurting."
