The last of the relatives are on the road home, all the presents have been opened, the decorations and tables taken down, and all but the last piece of cake eaten (except for the top which is in the freezer mostly just so we didn't eat most of a three layer cake in three days). This past Saturday Rafe and I were surrounded by over 100 of our dear friends and family as we vowed to support and care for each other and so on until death do us part or we got bored of the idea.
The wedding was beautiful, so I was told by numerous people. Our friend Jan sang beautifully. The weather was good, the food was delicious, and the family spat didn't occur until the day after, so all in all a successful event. Sure there were things that didn't go according to plan, but no big event ever goes off without a glitch or two, but nothing severe. It really came together very nicely. We should have pictures soon. In the four pictures I've seen so far my mom was making a weird face in all of them.
The stress, before and after, was worth it, and I just have to keep reminding myself that, especially after today's breakfast at 7:30 with Dad and a separate lunch with a sullen sister and weepy mom because my mom and dad couldn't stand to be in the same room as each other after two days. Well, technically Mom would have simply killed Dad and Dad was just being offended and snooty. Ah, the joys of being a child of divorce; although if they had stayed married it wouldn't have been much better. I should have put that in my vows: If we ever do get divorced, heaven forbid, and we have kids, I vow to never let our relationship disintegrate to the point my parents have.
In other news, we go in tomorrow to sign all the paperwork on the land, and then it is ours, to do with as we please. I still need to go in and talk with my boss about grad school, which will now have to be delayed until Thursday because he's hosting people from another optical society for two days. Woot.
I really want to go on a mini-moon. Not necessarily a honeymoon, just a mini-moon to be with Rafe for a full 24 hours with no distractions, no parkour, no work, no school, no friends, no family. Just him and me, some cheese, meat, and a baguette, and a nice view. Maybe we can do it some weekend soon. We shall try.
