Day 44, Mess, Attn: Whoever [f]

Oct 24, 2007 11:29

Jack hobbled down the corridors, leaning on the one crutch he'd been provided. The infirmary was crazy and understaffed and he'd finally talked Biro into letting him go home. With communications in disarray, she was worried about him snapping a bone or spraining something and not being able to summon help, so even with the overcrowding, she'd intended to keep him until he'd pointed out that his tiny closet of an apartment was on the main stretch and a former SGC guy had promised to check in on him while he was on patrol.

Jack wasn't headed for his apartment, though, but for the mess. He was starving, perhaps literally, considering, and getting someone to deliver seemed unlikely. He had no idea what time it was. It was quite possible no one knew at this point, given their new home. With the AI so freaked, there were no night and day cycles, merely people working and working some more. He didn't know whether to expect breakfast foods or lunch/dinner and really didn't care.

A few former SGC people stared as he went past. Jack ignored them. He'd need to talk to Dr. Weir and find out how she wanted to play this. He stepped into the mess, wondering how he was going to handle a tray and a crutch in his current condition-- foot in a cast, wrist in a splint, still weak and brittle. He couldn't afford a fall-- he'd been lucky when he'd been tipped from bed yesterday.

He scanned the room for a friendly face.
