Chuck shook his head, trying to clear it. He was sure he could clear the virus. He knew it was just a matter of time ... get rid of one more problem, and it may well be the last problem. Just one more. Or maybe another one.
He wasn’t really thinking much about anything in particular, practically operating on automatic except for the occasional interaction like the one he’d just had with Doctor Zelenka. The conversation had left him slightly unsettled, almost as though the scientist had become someone else in the few days they’d been in space.
Chuck tried to clear his head again. We’re all different people, he said darkly to himself. Not just because most of us could use a shave. Lack of time more than lack of water was the problem - they had safe drinking water in abundance. They didn’t have consistent power for heating it, though, so showers were in short supply and while shaving was always possible even in cold water, Chuck noted that many simply hadn’t.
He blinked.
All the damn time now he would be distracted by meaningless thoughts in his mind. Need to sleep he thought. He snorted softly. He might need to, but so did everyone else. And there were a bunch of civilians who needed sleep and protection, and Chuck wasn’t going to be the one who let them down by getting sleep at the expense of protection. No, not me, he thought grimly.
