Day 52, morning, science lab, Kavanagh, Sheppard, others [F]
His temples throbbing with a massive headache, Rodney left the mess hall, taking a thermos with coffee with him. The discussion over breakfast hadn't exactly improved his already foul mood. There was so much to do, the duty roster for kitchen duty after the lost snowball fight, checking the status of the repairs and filling in for Dr Patel who was on a mission this morning. Not to mention all the projects Radek had been working on. And he still had no word from Kavanagh, he thought sourly.
Rodney entered the lab and the conversations instantly died. He noticed the looks people exchanged, and scowled. Of course, the news had made the round already. Rodney was fully aware he had to comment on Radek's absence from the lab sooner or later, if he liked it or not. And if he gave them something, he wouldn't have to deal with questioning gazes all day long.
I hate this job, he thought, feeling his stomach clench as he walked over to his workstation. I really need to find me an office like Carson. They'd planned to check the storage rooms for something suitable near the science lab. Most likely not anytime soon.
Sitting down and starting his laptop the quiet conversations were picked up again and he tried hard not to listen, but he thought a few times he caught Radek's name.
Growling, he turned around. "Dr Zelenka is in the infirmary and will not be around for a while. I'd be delighted if you'd be as quick with your tasks as with your chit-chatting," he snarled. "Collins, Jamieson and Webbs! If you're done with your work, and have time to babble, you could go join the repair teams or do extra kitchen duty."
The addressed scientists exchanged tale-telling looks, and without a reply, dutifully focused back on their tasks.
