and that's the way it is in Minnesota

My musical heart is having a bit of a rollercoastery day, and I've only been awake for about an hour! On one hand, I have Dresden Dolls tickets for their May 22nd San Diego show and I'm so excited I could scream. Seriously, it's been over a year since I saw them, and I was just musing recently about how much I missed it. (In the 8 months I was in Boston after first hearing they play at a local science-fiction convention in 2004, I saw them 2-3 more times. I've seen them... 3 times since then? I think. They don't get out to CA as much as I'd like.)

On the other hand, My Chemical Romance show reports are starting to pop up, and while I love reading them and I'm happy for everyone who gets to go, I'm also still not emotionally reconciled to the fact that none of the dates fell out in a way to let me make them. I'm in the Midwest for a wedding for most the CA dates and the others were constrained by classes, and the Pennsylvania show that some of my Boston friends are driving out to almost coincides with an event I'd consider flying out for anyway, but there's just no way I can miss attending seminar and teaching discussion section on the Monday in between. Just no way, unless I lie through my teeth about what I'm doing and make all sorts of annoying arrangements, and just, no.

I don't usually miss having a steady 10-6 job, despite all the craziness of grad school. There have been plenty of ways that school has given me a more flexible schedule. But in this particular instance, it kind of really sucks that I can't just ask for a vacation day.

On the other hand, I get to see the Dresden Dolls in a month and a half! Yay!
