My housemate and I have been slowly making our way through Stargate: Atlantis. Season 1 took quite awhile, because we'd watch a few eps and then go weeks or months at a time before picking it up again. It was always adorable and fun, but we're both really busy, and pretty easily distracted to boot. But toward the end of Season 1 we got to talking about how it would be nice to get to Ronon, because based on the fic I've read and the photos we've both seen, Ronon is clearly awesome and exceedingly hot. In the last couple of days (spring break is awesome, even if I am already stupidly overbooked) we watched the end of Season 1 and the beginning of Season 2.
And despite the ridiculous obviousness of everything I'm saying (not to mention how we're probably two of the last people on earth (well, two of the last people at least marginally related to fandom, at least) who hadn't already experienced this), I feel the need to say it anyway.
Because seriously, damn. Ronon is just... indescribably hot. Hotter than any picture is capable of conveying, apparently. Or even pictures + awesome fic, I suspect.
My vote is that it's the voice. I mean, the movements are nice too -- dangerous and graceful, a near-unbeatable combination. But. His voice.
[*blink* Oh. It's morning now. I guess I fell asleep in the middle of writing.]
I'm also pretty happy that we've been introduced to Major Lorne, too. He's so snarky! Basically, I just kind of adore so many of the characters on this show. I mean, I love the central four, of course -- Sheppard, McKay, Teyla, Weir. But I love the others at least as much -- Carson's freaking adorable, and every time Zelenka gets a chunk of screentime I fall a little bit more in love with him. (What, I like geeks, okay? The geek quotient on the show may be my favorite thing about it. Real geeks! Who get all excited and think so fast they're barely managing 30% spoken aloud when talking to each other. So awesome.)
I quite liked Ford before they fucked him up, and I miss Dr. Grodin and his spiffy accent. Not that I knew that was his name, but I miss him. Heightmeyer kind of annoys the living daylights out of me, but I think so far she's the only recurring character to do so, other than the ones who are clearly supposed to make you want to punch them.
And they all have these wonderful interactions and relationships with each other. I think that, in the end, that's what makes me fannish about something. It's loving the characters, but most especially loving the characters' interactions with each other. From the most surficial to the ones so deep the characters may never directly acknowledge them -- all those layers and complexity. If you can give me those in ways that ring true, consistently, you've probably got me. I think this is in part why I like crossovers so much, the speculative exploration of reaction and interaction.
