So this week I was talking to someone about my new cat and this happened after I told them her name:

Them: So, did you name her after yourself?
Me: ... What?
Them: You know, her name is Mari, your name is Rosemary.
Me: What? No! I didn't name her after myself. 0_o

And I was being totally honest when I said that. For one thing, they're not pronounced the ( Read more... )

Thank you!

And I actually just realized that in this post I illustrated my point, since if you type my name on a Japanese keyboard it read "ro-su-ma-ri" which the third character should be メ, so it's really ロスメリ! I hadn't noticed when I first put that up! That's one problem with using a phonetic alphabet (Japanese) to write words that aren't always written the way they sound (English).

Japanese and phonetic pronouceations comingin2day October 3 2011, 22:32:28 UTC
I totally agree.. In Hebrew there is no CH..even thought they use the letters CH.. the sound it makes is a heavy Het sound. the same with ai...that is the sound of I. I guess in the American culture we take a lot for granted that when we see letters, or the amount of letters to pronouce a word that other cultures and languages will try to come as close to explaining the sounds and meanings with the tools they have. But, unless you understand and want to learn the language truly... then much of this information will be lost on you. Especially, if the letters provide tones and sound that actually change the molecular structure of water, which the human body is 80%. Very important to know that. I totally agree also with Mari... that your pronounciation is how I would have pronounced it, with a soft "a" (ah).. In Hebrew by pronoucing those sounds you have established the M*mmm* for the base chakra of manifesting your personal power... M"ah" is the heart chakra for emotion/love/energy....R*Ree* is the War/Peace (depending on intent).. ( ... )
