So, I did indeed end up doing a ( full reinstall of Windows today... )

That's the sound of me nuking my Windows XP install and starting a-fresh. After a repair install (SP1a CD on a SP2+patches system) I encountered a couple of errors during re-applying SP2. I found Knowledge Base articles about both of them, and tried again ... and ended up with a system that would now not boot again. So I scream, said fuck it, ( Read more... )

So, the machine was all together by early yesterday afternoon, and booted into Linux via LILO with no problems whatsoever. I puttered around there checking sound worked etc. and then decided it was time to see how difficult Windows XP was going to be about the HD being moved to a totally different machine.
