Well, that's that done for my desktop. Mostly went smoothly, just a bit awkward getting it to upgrade the C library initially. That was due to my having installed an i686-optimised version at some point, and apparently not from a repository dpkg was happy about. That's the sound of me nuking my Windows XP install and starting a-fresh. After a repair install (SP1a CD on a SP2+patches system) I encountered a couple of errors during re-applying SP2.
