He woke up from his dream to a loud crack that was almost a bang. So much for those Risan dancing girls. Damn.

In a flash he was off the pullout couch bed and on his feet. What the fuck was that noise? In nothing but his Starfleet issue boxer-shorts and undershirt he slowly crept to the front foyer. There was a girl, standing on the inside of the house, right by the door. Knocking on it and calling out for Wes.

But the door was still locked, and even had his telltale still there. How the fuck had she gotten in without opening the door?

The recent communication about Dracula had his mind going places it probably shouldn't have gone, paranoia did strange things. What the fuck?

With a quick movement he inched to the side of the foyer. When the time was right, he struck tackling the strange woman to the ground.

"What the hell are you doing here," he said before he got a better look, "and what the fuck, you're pregnant!"

Stunned, she blinked up at him. "Thanks for noticing," she said, breathlessness tempering the acid in her tone. He was probably lucky he'd tackled her-- her wand was already out, and she had a hair-trigger response to hex people if they startled her while her guard was up. But, really, she wished he hadn't. After a brief, panicky inventory of her own well being-- she was fine, though she'd probably have some bruises-- she looked at him shrewdly ( ... )

He looked almost cross eyed at the stick she was pointing at him. Her body language said he should be wary but really? A stick?

"Why are you pointing a stick at me?" He put one finger on the stick and pushed it away from his face. "And I'm not telling you where Wes is till you prove to me you aren't some, some, critter he was all freaked out about."

"Oh, for heaven's sake," she said, with considerable asperity. "Do I look like a 'critter'? Or anything else that he might actively be afraid of?" Then again, maybe she did. "Don't answer that. I'm Hermione-- I'm a friend of Wes's." Pointedly, she added, "I was here a few days ago, and while there are things about this town I admittedly still don't remember, I think I would recall seeing you here." Looking him over, she said, "Since you claim to have spoken to Wes about whatever "freaked him out", and you're running around his house in your underthings, I can assume that you're not the one responsible for that... incident on the forums last night. And that's a good thing," she added, waving her wand for emphasis. Sparks burst from its tip-- but she had it safely pointed towards the ceiling, so they fizzled harmlessly in the air over her shoulder. "Otherwise, you'd be having a long conversation with the wrong end of my 'stick'."

It didn't take much for Wes to slip out of the house without waking Dok. The man slept like a brick on a good day, and if Wes' own internal alarm clock wasn't set as early as it was, he'd probably sleep even later. The short walk to the side door of his own home was't nearly enough to quiet his brain and prepare for whatever he was about to see and he knew it.

It was a mistake, and he knew it, but as it stood he was too tired and frustrated to stop himself. With a sigh, he unlocked the door and stepped in without so much as announcing himself to the two at the kitchen table.

"Hermione, what are you even doing here? You know if Dok knew you were here this early he'd have a fit about not stressing yourself out." He groused, moving inside and making himself a cup of tea out of habit, but not before checking that the looseleaf was undisturbed. Good. The seal wasn't broken. "And what possessed you to let her in?" He asked Kirk, thunking a mug down on the counter. If this was someone's idea of a prank he was not amused.

"Ok, Mom. I didn't let her in, she just appeared! Said she ah-par-a-tay-ted or something. I ended up tacking the poor lady while I was half asleep."

He snorted, "Next time someone appears in your house claiming to be your friend, I'll just kick them out."

Hermione set down her paper and fixed him with one of her most impressive baleful glances. "If Dok has a fit about me being here this early, I'd just have to tell him it's his fault. If he's going to react badly to something, and leave any record of it at all in a public place, he has to know that people are going to be worried about him." Picking up her tea, she calmly took a sip. "And you would rather Jim let me stand outside in the street? Is that what you would have done? Maybe I should be glad I Apparated straight into the foyer."

"It was nothing." Wes replied automatically--there wasn't much she could have seen anyway, the conversation had gone private right after Alucard decided to make his appearance. "And it's still your fault--it's on you how you choose to react to something, especially in your condition."

After his first night with Dok, Wes would do everything to keep as many people in the dark about what was going on as possible. "And if you're curious, them at this hour, yes, I would have left you there. It's six thirty in the morning. On a Saturday . Just...go home, Hermione. Dok's fine."
