Clarice had been relieved to see the Doctor at the St. Patrick's Day party, and while she would never have insisted on his following through on his suggestion of lunch, it warmed her when he did. After all these months it was starting to get easier to believe that certain people genuinely wanted to spend time with her, but it still felt sort of like getting an unexpected gift, every time.
She had a free period and she wanted to make the most of it, so she ducked into the girls' room, not wanting to make a scene. She concentrated hard, and in a Blink of sparkly pink light, she was in the alley around the side of the pancake house.
Alleys in Aternaville were much friendlier than alleys in Miami had been.
Steadying herself against the wall for a heartbeat, she noted that it was definitely getting easier. She felt no worse than if she'd just sprinted up eight flights of stairs, and she seemed to have all her fingers and toes and even her backpack. Though she'd forgotten her coat, not thinking that she'd be Blinking to the outside, so she straightened up and hurried around the corner of the building to the door.
