Flood forecast to be 2nd worst in 100 years: forecasters.

The flood forecast for Manitoba keeps getting worse, with officials announcing on Wednesday that the peak flow of the Red River in Winnipeg will exceed the flood of 1950 ( Read more... )

So, we progress.

The province is assuring us that river flooding will NOT be an issue, despite the extra snow we've received - again. We got about 8 inches last night and today in addition to what we got last week, and added to what'll be coming up from Fargo as melt in a few weeks.

The river levels dropped Thursday after an ice jam was broken north of us, further downstream. After it drained away a bit, it has stayed pretty even, going up and down just slightly for the past few days ( Read more... )

Spring has officially sprung! We had our first thunderstorm last night/this morning. I crawled out of bed when my alarm went off, and went to read my email and comics and the news...

And the power went out.

Last week, the hydrologists in North Dakota were all rainbows and buttercups about the flood forecast. Earlier this week, however, they changed their tune because they had "found some more water." (Found it? Under a rock?) So, the sandbags came out. The Red was supposed to crest in Fargo today, and in Grand Forks today or tomorrow ( Read more... )
