The past two nights were so awesome.
Alan's stepbrother playes for the NY Mets (#4 Chris Woodward), and he got us 5 tickets to the big game on the 28th with Pedro pitching, and the 29th, where we ended up sweeping them at home. We ended up taking Kim, Tony, Megan and Michelle, and we all had such an awesome time. I wish we got to thank Chris for the tickets, but it was pretty hard to be able to get in touch with him.
The first night we just completely shut out the Mets. There were two NYM fans sitting to our left and by the 3rd inning they got up and removed themselves from the game. I guess they had already seen enough. I have to give a lot of them credit though, because there were hardcore fans who weren't discouraged by the overwhelming presence (and abuse) from Red Sox Nation. They were still cheering for their team even when they were losing, and that takes guts in Fenway. But it was a good time. Two great Sox fans came and took the seats of the Mets fans and we had some good chatting with them. If someone were to ask the reason why Pedro did so poorly on the mound that night, I would have to say that it is a direct result of the fans. Our presence alone would be intimidating enough, but 35 thousand people chanting "PEEEEEEDROOOOOO" can't be ignored. I kinda felt bad for the guy when they pulled him before the 4th inning was even over, but at the same time it was so much fun to be involved in that. Megan also got Trot Nixon's Lic Plate number, so we'll be running a check on him soon enough. ;) On the way back home after the game there was this hillarious guy sitting in the back of the bus with us talking about how he has been stuck on a hot bus with nasty smelling people and windows that couldn't open, among other humorous things. He kept saying stuff like "shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit" and the word "like" about a hundred times. That night I didn't really get any sleep, but was psyched and ready to head out to the second game.
We got there early enough to make it before the game started, and we lost a couple bottles of gatorade, but it turned out to be alright. Of course, I'm dying of thirst right now and thinking of those bottles makes me sad, but what can ya do? I got a shirt on the pro shop that I LOVE and we made our way into the park. It started off pretty slow, and 4 innings had passed before we even realized. Everyone was saying that the game with Pedro was good, but it would have been better if there was a struggle going on to see who would win the game, and that's exactly what we got. The Mets fans were all really loud when they were winning, and they started to chant for their team, so we yelled louder to drown them out, and things began to escalate. We started chanting for Papi after Loretta got a base hit, and soon enough he was on base. We just kept at it, cheering and clapping and freaking the F out for amazing plays- we were so crazy after that amazing catch that we were too busy hugging and jumping up and down and yelling to notice that Sweet Caroline had already started playing. Fenway was in a frenzy, and we all started singing along to a close proximity of when we were playing the ALDS in 2004. It was amazing.
And after the game I saw the two blonde girls from "And Still We Believe", y'know, that red sox fan movie they made in 2003. I was psyched about that :D
I might have some pictures to post up here from Megan's cam on the first night later on. Until then I gotta go. :)
