go ahead and judge me, i was judging myself so hard

~ Went to the My Darkest Day/Seether/Bush/Nickelback show last night. I originally planned not to go, because I think Nickelback are capital D douchebreaux, but then I realized that Bush and Seether were opening for them, and b/c of Houston's weird promoter situation, that meant that I wouldn't get to see GRossdale or Dale Stewart et al again for a year if I didn't go to the show. So.

Things I remember thinking I should post about:
1. Shaun Morgan has zero stage presence. IDK, I remember seeing them as headliners a few years ago, and don't remember him being so bad. He said maybe 5 words outside of lyrics.
2. Seether performed six songs. Six of their most popular songs. Which aren't bad, really, but they are not the songs that I ever want to hear if given a choice.
3. Broken is just sad without Amy Lee harmonizing.
4. I really just like Seether for Dale Stewart's bass.
5. Seriously, I am not wasting money on them again until they are headliners. And Shaun Morgan re-grows a personality.

Um. Bush.
1. Gavin Rossdale looks even more cut than the last time I saw Bush. Thanks for wearing that ripped up tshirt, dude.
2. Mashing Hotel California and then abandoning it? TEASING.
3. He did the thing where he climbs out into the audience, but this time he literally circled the ENTIRE lower bowl at the Toyota Center, weaving through rows and letting fans maul him. NGL, I spent a good few minutes imaging Bden suggesting that and the LOLNO reply Zack'd give them.
4. Come Together: still awesome.

I thought we'd leave after their set, but we stayed until Nickelback's encore. IDK IDK, I have a really hard time liking a band that goes from a song with a primary lyric that a woman looks better with something in her mouth to Never Again. Like, hey, it's cool to objectify in one song and then in the very next one deplore behavior that can often be linked to such objectification and the resultant self-esteem issues. Also, something about their stage set and pyro really reminds me of mid-to-late 90s Metallica. On the plus side, I really really appreciate that the drummer sings harmonies on a lot of songs. On a purely objective level, I thought the sound was mixed well, and the Douchebreaux have good (douchey) stage presence and stage design (especially if you're into professional cheerleaders shaking their asses and roadies tossing Solo cups full of beer into the audience).

+ Next book for bookclub: By Blood. (ETA: Motherfucker. ANOTHER BOOK WRITTEN IN 1st PERSON. WHYYYYYYYYYY?)

- D: D: D: DEVILS. COME ON, BABY GIONTA & HENRIQUE, GET SOMETHING GOING!

Someone should talk to me about how Zach Parise manages to be so pretty. Like, shouldn't he have lost way more teeth? Or about Ilya Kovalchuk wanting a Cup to go with his bronze Olympics medal and gold from Worlds. Or, you know, alllllll about Marty Brodeur's awesome.

~ Summer undergraduate arrived last week. She seems okay, just inexperienced. I had forgotten how much extra work it is to have my experiments to do plus teaching someone else and getting them started on their own separate mini project.

+ Like Daveeeed, Rafa Nadal won yesterday! And for Rafa's birthday, today Federer and Djokovic had tough matches. And then this came across my twitter feed when I was backreading, so I feel like I got a gift too, even if I feel vaguely wrong about ogling it.

+ Noises Off tonight.

+ BONNAROO IN FOUR DAYS. I'm sort of ridiculously excited for some acts. Mostly not the headliners, though.

music, oh life, that's why they pay me the not-so-big $, what was i saying again?, spanish armada, i am lame, hockey
