Another bout of sickness, nearly over, and I've been alternating between exploring my HDDs and reading. I'm also fairly up to date on my current 'must watch' list. ( cut for some spoilers )
Ah, you're alive! The lack of misunderstandings is really well done, I think it's because they communicate so well that the show can run with all of the plot points they throw into the mix. I like that the females don't regularly do stupid things and don't automatically trust the guys. I find myself really liking Caroline these days, and feeling pretty positive about Tyler. Even the characters we'd normally dislike somehow become interesting and enticing. I once compared Elaina and Stefen to Liz and Max from Roswell, and now I'm feeling a little embarassed about it - there's so much more dimension to even the most stereotyped characters such as the romantic leads in TVD.
I think Nikita is a slow build, and there are certainly problems with it, that may work out through a series or two of runtime. Part of the joy for me is that it somehow manages to blend an action movie with moments of quiet reflection, and that the regular use of flashbacks is handled well enough that it does bother me (most shows, I hate flashbacks with a passion). I've been trying to be more aware of depictions of ability, race and gender in TV. I think Nikita does a pretty decent job on this front.
