Today was an outdoor shooting day, which I'd never done before. Started at 18m, which is what we do inside and went about as well as it does inside. Moved on to 30m and after a few rounds managed to get more arrows on the block than in the grass. Then a competition started and I moved to the free block, which was at 40 yards. The straw bales were very evil, and so I shot them. Third lesson of the archery course. We're at 14 metre now and using a visor. I enjoyed barebow more (it has more of the feeling I'm looking for) but the visor undeniably helps accuracy ( Read more... )

No, not knitting needles, arrows! It was the first lesson of my archery course. And I loved it. Modern recurve bows to learn on (I want to go in the direction of wood/longbow later). Mostly trying to develop a correct, consistent stance. I won the first-lesson-beginners competition. By 18 points. :-)

On the plus side, exhousemate L and I thought tickets for the Baseballs gig on 6/10 were sold out but this is not the case, so we can go after all. Yay!

On the minus side, the archery course I wanted to do is full. Fuck.

Despite a) being the perennial holder of the 'most fragile person in class (oh god please don't break me)' award and b) being really rubbish at it, I never have a problem finding people who seem to enjoy training with me and are as careful of me as they know how to be.

It's nice to feel welcome.
