The calm before...

...the vacation! Or the sort-of vacation, anyway. Eric is supposed to be working while we're visiting his parents, but between our plans and his mother's plans, he'll be lucky to fit in more than a couple hours a day, and only if he gets up early (and what are the chances of that, I wonder?). But we have fun things planned, like going downtown to meet my cousin for lunch before he jets back to New England for his winter break, and going out for dinner with friends and leaving Quinn with his grandparents, maybe seeing a movie, and getting Quinn together with at least one cousin and one friend close to his age. Oh yeah, and see lots of Eric's relatives and have lots of food on Thanksgiving. All in all it has the makings of a great trip.

Hurdles in sight include that we have not packed a thing, not a thing, yet, but at least I remembered to print out the list the other day (yes, I have a list - we have one for skiing, too - I am a list person and having a packing list helps me to feel slightly less crazed while packing - slightly less...); and the fact that Quinn has not yet kicked his cold so will undoubtedly be a bit extra grumpy during the flight, especially since we will be flying during nap time. Best case scenario is him sleeping on the plane, but probability seems low. But everything must get done tomorrow since Sunday I have to go to church/work, from which I will need to make a quick exit to run home, change clothes, and dash to the airport.

Personal hurdles of the past week include trying to select which people in choir will sing solos this season (aaaaggghhh! it's not totally done, but hopefully I will stop losing sleep over it now), trying not to catch Quinn's cold, surviving a doctor appointment (pap!) with toddler in tow (he was actually very good and stopped trying to pull the sheet off of my legs after I started playing peek-a-boo with him - he was trapped in the stroller near the end of the exam table during the whole affair), and trying not to hit the garage door with our new ski box that is attached to the top of my car (must remember to drive s-l-o-w-l-y!).

Personal achievements of the past week include getting to all of my appointments on time, successfully rearranging items in my parent's house to stymie some of Quinn's mischievous activities, not yelling at the people at the car dealership when they took nearly three hours to do an oil change and a computer update to the Prius (did they not notice toddler havoc?!? after an hour an a half of waiting I gave up on keeping Quinn in the kid's area and just let him run all around the showroom - all was well until he stuck his hand into the tailpipe of an SUV - ick!), and clearing off a 9x12 section of my desk. Unfortunately I can only see about 9x4 of that section now, but that's still better than it was last week!

Apparently tonight was the night-of-the-run-on-sentence. Oh well. Good night!
