Things have been busy. I'm still teaching half-time music and French, and I will be until the end of the school year, which for this school is... tomorrow!
After lots of trying and a few false starts, my friend Miss Parkinson and I have managed to pin down a date and venue for the first-ever Edmonton-area wizard rock concert! Because it's a free show, we were able to get non-profit rates on one of the (several!) theatre spaces in the downtown library. I've spoken to The Maestro (and since he's not doing a show in Grande Prairie anymore, he's MUCH easier to make contact with!) and we're going to get together soon and work up an opening set.
That's right, eriseD straeH is opening for Miss Parkinson in the FIRST Edmonton-area wizard rock concert EVER!!!
I had a job interview last week that I feel really good about. It was for part-time music in Parkland, and although the school is an hour away, I really want this job! I actually got a mock-interview from the vice principal at the school where I've been working all this time. Not only did he give me a good preview of the sorts of questions I could expect, but he also gave some pointers about areas that I needed to work on in terms of how I was responding; mostly basic things like maintaining eye contact and finishing my answers strongly, rather than petering out when I ran out of things to say.
I also received my official rejection letter from the largest school board in my area. I'm not happy about it, but I still have some prospects.
We're ironing out our vacation. We have flights, hotels and rental cars; we have figured out approximately where we're going to be when, and we have our two days' admission to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. (!!!) I called today to book our dolphin swims at Discovery Cove (we requested Coach Pyne as our trainer, we'll see if that pans out!) and within the next week or so we'll also be booking a manatee tour and three days at Disney World.
Because I've been teaching 5-12 year-olds, I have some students who are seriously jealous of what I'm doing this summer. *smug*
