Andrew Wyeth - Memorial

Jan 20, 2009 16:51

American painter Andrew Wyeth died on Friday 1/16. He was 91 and seems to have been painting until pretty much the end. He died in his sleep, at his home. Really, I think this is a happy announcement (well, as much as it can be). What I mean is that a long, successful/talent-filled life had a good and peaceful end to it. I saw his work at the ( Read more... )

Could you compare/contrast PainterX and Maya from an artists perspective, and in layperson's terms? I would like to create game graphics from photographs with as much flexiblity for special effects as possible. Sometimes Kaplan offers special discounts on software and I'm just curious as to whether I would need the power of Maya should it be offered or not.

Please include this (http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/features/01_UI/) in your recommendations. I really like what this product does but all the graphics look to be stills and game progamming requires animation. Would it allow for animating characters? Forgive me if I'm asking you too much, I'm just not familiar with artists tools and wonder if you can help.

ZBrush is one of the more fascinating products out there, IMHO, and people create what I think are some of the most mind-blowing pieces of artwork from it ( ... )

May he rest in peace. What an incredible American painter.

I concur - his work was/is amazing! Out of the works that you posted, 'Weatherside' and 'Braids' are my favourites (the detail in 'Braids' is incredible). Also 'Adrift' and 'The Carry' (okay, I like them all). There's something very emotional about his work, which, if I knew anything about art, I could explain better, but I can't. ;P

His landscapes in particular remind me of places I lived and visited as a kid in the USA, so that may be why I make a personal connection to them... but they really have a life of their own. It's awesome that he kept painting for so long!
